Gre-Tan bolt

Recently had a Remington 700 boltface modified by Gre-Tan. Had 2 primers rupture (with a mild load) that left burn holes in the bolt face. Firing pin turned down to .062" and boltface bushed.

Excellent work, at a fair price & a quick turn-around time.

Had a Panda Big Bore that was cratering primers on our 6BR. Sent bolt out to Greg, returned in a week or so and never had another primer issue. Anyone cratering primers ( with loads that shouldn't crater ! ) should have his bolt modification done.

When I got mine back for a remington it didnt fail a headspace gage check.Call and ask him,he is a good guy.

Just loaded the same 308 Win. brass that was fired before the boltface modification. Nothing has changed.

My Redding neck bushing die still bumps the shoulders back .002".

For my information. Since the bolt face does not contact the cartridge itself, but sets back .005-.006 from the case head, why would it matter or affect anything if the bolt face is "cratered" or similar imperfections. Just curious. I have a Mauser bolt that has the similar "burn craters" from a primer problem. Does not seem to affect performance, Thanks for any info.

Well I thought the bolt face (flat part where the firing pin hole is) was the back end of the headspace measurement. I'm sure he only takes a minimum cleanup cut across it, maybe a half thous which should hardly be measurable.

The big concern isn't cratering of the bolt face so much as it is ruptured primers, and hot gas flowing where it's not wanted. Granted, a cratered bolt face is not a good thing, but it won't ruin your day like a ruptured primer will.
