Grayboe Renedade Stock

Anyone have any input on Grayboe stocks, more specifically the "Renegade" model? Looking at building another tactical/long range hunting rig and was curious as to how this model would compare to an A5 McMillan. I currently have one rifle on an A5 and love it, but they are expensive and can take a pretty good while to get your hands on if you order a custom marble. But, I guess that's part of the beauty of a McMillan.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I recently used one for a 6 Creedmoor build. It is as advertised. Very solid stock that fit my action as it should. You don't get all of the bells and whistles you would get on a McMillan but you don't pay the price either. I would definitely recommend it for a tactical build. They are a little heavy, I believe # 3.6.

Thanks for the feedback. I have a rifle now on a magnum fill weight A5 and it is a pretty heavy stock as well. Did I read correctly that Grayboe is a sister company of McMillan looking to get into the mid-range stock market? The lead times for a custom McMillan are a fairly long, but they are great stocks.

I don't know that I would say they are a "sister" company, but they are an off-shoot and use basically the same molds as the A5 but in a base configuration. What they are offering is a stock at an entry level price. They keep costs down and provide fast delivery by not offering options for action or barrel inlet. While they change at a later time, at this point, all they offer are stocks inlet for a Remington 700 SA or LA with a varmint/Sendaro contour. They do have the option for DBM or BDL inletting and various finishes/colors. For the price, they are an outstanding value if your rifle will fit the inlet and contour or you know how to modify stocks to fit your needs.

I had one and it felt every bit as good as my A5s. Only drawback is I wish they'd offer them with adjustable cheek and LOPs.

I understand wanting options but here are guys out there that will do aftermarket work at reasonable prices. Again, when you start offering options, costs go up and lead times get extended. McMillan is still available for those who want more than what the Grayboe stocks offer.

I haven't gotten my action yet, but I would imagine a trued Remington is the likely choice unless I can come up with the extra coin for a Defiance. So, it sounds like the Grayboe stocks would be a good option. Thanks for the input fellas, all valid points.

Well I'm glad to hear others are liking this stock. I was in the middle of purchasing one as I was in the same boat as you and love my mcmillan a5. The gentleman that was selling them (have done tons of business with) highly recommended this stock and now has 2 on his personal rifles!! I came across a smoking deal on a manners and went that route just due to price. But next stock will most likely be a grayboe

Got a buddy that has one on a 6x47. A little on the heavy side but tolerable. I will use one on my next build.

I purchased a Renegade a while back and it was my first time getting into an A5 profile stock. Build quality is top notch and my action and bottom metal (SA 700 with PT&G DBM) fit like a glove. It's solid as a rock but it's a little heavy for my liking.

I was looking for one in the desert camo pattern but couldn't find one anywhere so I ordered the ATACS camo pattern thinking it would grow on me but it hasn't. I'm thinking about selling it or trading for the new Terrain model in desert camo. It's a little over a pound lighter too, just can't find one with the DBM option.
