GP250 is about to be replaced

I have a Gem Probably 250 and think it is about to be replaced. Never had trouble with it before (almost 2 years). Calibrated and everything today it was just acting funny. Might be too OCD but I feel why reload for competition half ass.

Empty weighing pan is always 56.08gr. Today it was reading 56.04 to 56.10. I kept taring the unit and even re calibrated it few times.

My match load is 98.8gr with pan and powder charge. That is with scale reading 56.08 before powder. So with scale reading 56.04 to 56.10 today during weighing charges I felt frustrated and took more time than usual to load. So might be upgrading soon to FX120

Some might think this isn't a issue but I weigh every charge to within 1 kernel of powder to the best I can with the instruments I have. If going to put that much time and money in reloading and driving hours to matches better do it to the best possible ammo you can make

The time saving with the fx vs the gempro was worth it for me.
Weighing down to .02 is a side benefit.
No more re-taring, calibrating, drifting, wondering. I haven't had to do anything other then put a check weight on the pan every few throws for piece of mind. I dig it.

Food for thought... all electronics are perishable devices, some more so than others. Had a Acculab VIC-123 that did great for a year or so, then it crapped out. Bought a GemPro250, it works great currently. But I'm sure it will crap out, and then I'll buy another one. At 1-2 years per scale, that's maybe 5-10 years before you've matched the price of the FX-120. I leave my reloading stuff out in the garage, which can't be great for scales. Not sure how long any scale is going to live out there, regardless of the brand.

Says the guy who'll own an FX-120 next year. :)

How are you liking the FX? I think it being bigger scale will help too. More stable and more space to put weighing pan
The FX has completely different electronics and that's what makes the difference. For me, the larger size is a minor "con" rather than a pro . . . it just takes up more space.

After you've experienced the need to re-calibrate lesser scales . . . or guess which of 3 weights the scale gave you is the correct one for that pan . . . or watched one flutter even when undisturbed . . . the confidence you feel in the FX is a tremendous relief.

It isn't perfect . . . had mine a year and have had to re-calibrate it in the middle of a loading session maybe twice. It flutters between .00gr and .02gr when the weight is .01gr :) But I don't think there's any need to spend more money on a scale.

And with Adam's trickler connected to it . . . it's an absolute joy to use.

About to pull trigger on the FX scale. GP250 just keeps annoying me. Like mentioned above it gives 3 different weights for powder pan and have to tare often during a session of weighing Powder.

[QUOTE="1lnbrdg, post: 36863489, member: 1292340" Sent my gempro back 3 times .It drifted like a snowstorm ! Went to a fx120i no more problems .

So on FX does powder pan have to be same spot on weighing platform to be repeatable readings or anywhere? I see it's a flat platform with no dedicated spot to place pan like GP250 has

On a Sartorious Entris 64 you can place it anywhere on the 'platform'; it is a magnetic force restoration balance (like the A&D FX120i) so it should be the same. The Gempro is a loadcell, or strain gauge scale and is most accurate if the load is positioned on top of the central axis of the shaft supporting the platform.

If it's going to be awhile before upgrade, try running gp250 off batteries it seems to help drifting. From what I understand it is from change in line voltage, slight voltage peaks and Valley's cause drifting. Just read somewhere and it seems to work for mine. Be Awhile before I go up in price.

Mine gives the same reading anywhere you put the pan.
I tried it a while back and it went 20 for 20.

I have both a GP250 and an FX-120A, so not bias one way or the other.

If you have having this type of problem with the GP, before you blame it, make sure you have done your part in dealing with things like static and wind.... It's getting close to winter and the drop in humidity will do it to you.

What settings have y'all found to work best? in regards to display refresh rate, condition, and stability band width? seems those three settings would be changed for powder weighing

Any other settings I should look into changing?
