Got to love a gun that just shoots

Well 2 months back on trade I acquired a benchmark mtu 1:8 twist 223 barrel for a tl3 action with exactly 20 rounds down it for next to nothing. I didn’t own a tl3 so after another week or so I purchased the action obviously lol. Got everything I needed and ended up with a stainless tl3 with dlc’d bolt, benchmark barrel, tt diamond, manners prs1t/krg bravo (switching back and forth with the vudoo to see which combo I like best). After never owning a 223 before I purchased some Winchester brass, had some br4 primers laying around, n140 and 8208xbr, and 52ge seirra match ans 80gr amax.

yesterday finally had some time to get to the range and the gun just flat out shoots. I fired 17 groups. 7 of 80gr with n140 working up in .3gr increments, 5 of the 52gr and n140 in .3gr increments and 5 of the 52 with 8208 in .3gr increments. I had 1 pulled shot I called when the guy next to me touched off his 300 Norma for the first time for the day and I damn near hit the roof lol. Minus that 1 group the average for all 6 groupings for the 80gr were .334 moa, average for all 5 52’s with n140 was .343 moa and average for 52gr with 8208 was .3 moa. Largest group of the day was .60 moa and smallest being .007 moa with over half the groups being 1/4moa groups (8 plus that 1 .007).

this is very unusual for me. I am a decent shooter with most of my guns being capable of much better then I can preform with good loads. I am normally able to produce .4-.6 moa on almost any of my guns with loads and me behind the trigger. To say I’m pleased with this build is an understatement!!

Oh trust me I’ve learned in the past with that not to sell guns in general lol. I have 6 customs and never had a gun that just shot! Don’t get me wrong, they are all accurate but took there fair share of time with them to do so. This thing is just different. After it ate up all my reloads, I busted out hornady z-max, hornady v-max, 2 different kinds of Winchester super x, a box of federal, and a few old American eagles that my buddy had laying around and not a single one of those grouped larger then 1.25” 5 shot groups at 100 with the average coming in at .5-.6 moa (both hornady and both winchesters). Federal shot around 3/4 moa and the American eagle ranged from 1/2 to 1 1/4 moa.

I know how you feel. I bought a lightly used Brux barrel for fire forming Dasher brass several years back and that barrel is magical. Beat every barrel I have ever owned.

Congrats! You're going to be very happy with that rifle. I have a couple GAP [bolt] .223s I had built as F-TR rifles. They are throated long and shoot ridiculously well with the heavy Berger 90 VLDs and H4895. I was out day before yesterday and shot a 10-shot group at 334 yd that was under 1.5" (~0.4 MOA, picture below) using virgin brass and a fire-forming load. It was a splatter target, but it didn't "splatter" very much, and I couldn't see the holes through the scope, so I couldn't really tell what the group even looked like until I went to pick up the target. I've always felt that the accuracy/precision of the .223 Rem is under-appreciated. I've generally found loads easy to tune and ridiculously accurate/precise. You've definitely got a keeper there.
