Got out today

Finally the weather broke I've been rained on for three weeks..It was kinda windy today..in my face at the range & some gusts coming from the left..Mirage was there but managable..I got to shoot alot of loads I had been waiting to try out..The 100 grain Sierra looks very promising I only loaded 3 at each level but I think it could be a good bullet in my gun...I shot one really sweet .299 5 shot group with an 88gr berger match bullet....The Berger 80 gr.MEF HP shot under a half inch, got the 75 grain v-max looking decent also but that bullet has fooled me before..good at 100 [5/8 inch] 200 yds no go..the 75 gr hornady hollow point shot decent also all my shooting today was at 100 yds..I'll load some more & see what holds together at 200yds next trip out.I cleaned the gun before shooting today. There was nothing in there after 75 shots..no copper & very little carbon..I pushed 3 wet then 3 dry patches thru there last wet one was Kroil/hoppes 50/50 Then only one dry patch...I really like that little gun... .pics attached...mike in ct

I got to the range today in Connecticut as well. I shot my old 40X in 6mm Intl. The primary bullet that I shot was the 65 gr VMax and with loads on the light side. The only purpose of this rifle is for 200 yd position iron sight competition.

In the past I have used the 75 gr Sierra HP and 3031 with good luck but I like the plastic meplats these days. The powder that I hoped would work out is 4759 and it did ok but IMR 4198 with a hotter charge was quite a bit better.

Over all it was a very good day at the range. The groups were estimated and no targets marked. For this shooting a 1/2 MOA is all that one needs.

I don't clean this bore. It has to go at least 140 shots or so per match when it's the full course. I find that cleaning does not matter that much with light loads.
