Got my new 38-55 brass in today

Hey Fellers, Starline finally shipped my new thin walled 38-55 brass and it works, so now I can play with my new toy. Case necks out .3945 with a .379 bullet, starting out with 9gr of Unique to see how it feels. Baby Sharps just weighs about 6lbs and I figure if I can stand the recoil I would like to run it at around 1400fps so I will see:

So why thin walled? Is it special order? Curious
Dates back to original chambers, paper patch bullets, chamber and groove sizes.

Ballard the developer of the cartridge used paper patch bullets, when Winchester marketed their version, it was a regular cast bullet of a larger diameter.

Starline has a pretty good write up of why they offer it and the history. It’s very nice that they do. It also helps when using it as donor case for other early cartridges.

Thanks for the link!

I just ordered some 38-55 2.125" cases from them. They listed as backordered, but I see where they charged my CC. So, here's hoping!

They may have changed but I don't think they charge you till it ships, they usually don't allow you to back order till they start a run. Something less than a month is the longest I've ever had to wait for a back order once they allowed me to order it. They are good people to deal with, if you don't see something on your email just give them a call and they will tell you what's going on.... John

Last time I backordered 38-55 long brass, it was months waiting then they abruptly cancelled my backorder. Now it shows processing this request, that sounds encouraging.

Well mine is on its way as of yesterday. I clearly remember getting a text last year that my order was cancelled. Lady said no it was still active and that is what she was calling about. I had two orders one from 2023 and one I just sent to them. She cancelled 2025 order and they are selling the 250 case minimum to me at 2023 price. Now that is stand up, good ol honesty from an honest company!

They are first class, several years ago I got a notification that 2k 44mag cases I'd ordered had shipped along with a tracking number, usually Missouri to Arkansas usually takes about two or three days. Week later I hadn't seen anything and called them, she said tracking showed Delivery to my post office , went back to check and still nothing, by now it's after 5 so I didn't think about it till the next day, checked my phone and she had sent an email saying she found it some where in Texas and was shipping another order and asked me if the other one showed up to let her know. When I went to the post office to pick up the second shipment.... and you guessed it, they were both there. Called the lady and told her,we both had a laugh, she sent me a shipping label and I sent one back. They are good people... John

I've never heard of thin walled brass. I do know that some of the cases I've ordered from different supplies are a bit shorter. Both seem to work ok in my Winchester Crazy Horse Commemorative.

Hey Feller, go up to post#7 above and click on the link from Starline and it will explain it way better than I can, but it's the gospel on 38-55s..... John
