Got a .22-250 but no brass. Rebarrel to... what?

Not sure what brass you're looking for or how cheap you think you can get it, but why don't you just buy loaded ammo, shoot it and there's your brass. I mean you can get loaded 22-250 @ $0.87 per round and up. New brass even of the same brands as this stuff will likely be $0.64 or more per. It's all right there to see on ammoseek. They even have one place that's selling once fired brass for more than you can buy loaded rounds with the same brass stamp. Now there's a deal. lol

suggest sticking to the free shipping places, cheaper, faster, more reliable companies in my experience.

All that said, everyone's been out of 22-250 brass for such a long time and there's plenty of stock of loaded out there, so brass availability is likely just around the corner. Certainly this year, I'd just set a bunch of stock alerts and one on shootingbot and when there's brass and for a reasonable price load up. I do that with 220 Swift as it's only available about every 2yrs, so I simply wait for it and jump. Just got to avoid the first places as some love to jack up the price.

I have a Ruger #1 that is on it's fifth barrel. The first 4 were 22-250's. The latest is 22BR. Similar velocities with a given weight of bullet, but much better barrel life. I put an 8 twist Brux barrel on it to use for heavier bullets after the pdogs are keeping their heads down for the first 300 yards out. Buy a reamer that is set up for the bullet you want to shoot for the next 20 years.

Tried that. Case head is too large at the .200" line to chamber even after using my smallest ring die. L-R: rp 22-250, 6creedmoor formed to 6x250, factory 6 creedmoor.View attachment 1559211
That’s good to know!… I wouldn’t have thought that, I have made 6 creed when I couldn’t find it outta .308 and 22-250 cases but abandoned to 250 as oal was short. Thanks for the info

I love the 22-250 and 22-250AI. How much brass do you need?

Should add, if you Ackley it and anneal the brass lasts a lot longer in my experience.
I'm like him, I'm looking for brass too, enough to get started, inherited a Mod. 70, 1967 heavy barrel, probably been in storage since then too, can I AI the chamber with an AI reamer?

I can't for the life of me understand why someone would buy once fired brass for more than they can buy loaded ammo that also has free shipping. Especially when after firing the loaded ammo you have fire formed to your chamber brass. I realize it may or may not shoot well, but rodents won't care. What am I missing here?

So I'm about to give up on the .22-250 due to brass being made of unobtanium. I can't find any .250 Savage brass either, so it's time to look elsewhere. I can buy (cheap) factory ammo for $1 a round, but I don't see that happening. The brass that I did have was destroyed in a flood several years ago. I tossed it into the recycle bucket when I returned to the States. I want to keep the same bolt face, and still shoot .224" varmint bullets. Or maybe 6mm. I'm just beginning to search for a replacement cartridge, and right now I'm considering either .22-243 (of some variety) or .22-284. The .22-243 may well get the nod simply because of brass availability. I have become very reluctant to adopt a cartridge that components are not very readily available for. I know that eliminates a number of newer cartridges, but I don't need another boat anchor.

I am trying to limit my choices to a cartridge that won't be incredibly difficult to find a gunsmith with a reamer, so that is a consideration.

So, does anyone have any insight to offer? Experience with either cartridge? Another cartridge to look at? I appreciate any info that anyone can provide!
Keep that .22-250. I just had mine rebarreled after ~3,500 rounds. Not sure why you can't find brass. .22-250 brass is readily available in Canada. Everything from Lapua to Nosler and so on. I'm a big fan of the .22-250. I'm consistently shooting very small groups (22" barrel, 20 shot mean radius 0.20 - 0.25" groups at 100 meters with Berger or Hornady 40 gr varmint bullets and IMR-3031). Keep that .22-250! FInd brass :)

There are very few places where the availability in Canada helps down in the US and vice versa.

When you poke services like ShootingBot and Ammoseek, you can get an idea of how long it has been since any was available from a whole bunch of retailers. The 22-250 brass shortage started months ago and recently loaded ammo was the only option. That option doesn't help the Lapua fans.

If your retailers have it on hand up there and you will be needing it any time soon, better go get it now or some enterprising folks will move it to where they can charge inflated prices down here.

ROFL, um there's more out there than just Natchez... ammoseek.com is your friend.

It's even better today, PV gets #1 spot with 79.6c per or $15.92 per box of 20, but there's shipping.
Looking down the list there's these that are certainly well knows reputable places, all with free shipping and all 95cents or less per round.

update: so I went back to PV, added 20 boxes and with shipping it's $0.87 per. Maybe a picture will drive my point home?

The cheetah is a barrel burner I wouldn’t do that if I were you , why not a 22 br or a 22dasher 22 creedmoor?… I didn’t know 22-250 was unobtainable?… I just bought a bunch of Lapua. How much 22-250 brass you need?

You actually found some Lapua 22-250? That’s crazy.
When I was getting into this caliber couple years ago I bought some Winchester brass and later some factory primed federal primed brass that I just ran through a fl die and started working with that.
I have yet to see any lapua brass. It’s like the chupacabra heard about it but never seen it
