Got a .22-250 but no brass. Rebarrel to... what?

So I'm about to give up on the .22-250 due to brass being made of unobtanium. I can't find any .250 Savage brass either, so it's time to look elsewhere. I can buy (cheap) factory ammo for $1 a round, but I don't see that happening. The brass that I did have was destroyed in a flood several years ago. I tossed it into the recycle bucket when I returned to the States. I want to keep the same bolt face, and still shoot .224" varmint bullets. Or maybe 6mm. I'm just beginning to search for a replacement cartridge, and right now I'm considering either .22-243 (of some variety) or .22-284. The .22-243 may well get the nod simply because of brass availability. I have become very reluctant to adopt a cartridge that components are not very readily available for. I know that eliminates a number of newer cartridges, but I don't need another boat anchor.

I am trying to limit my choices to a cartridge that won't be incredibly difficult to find a gunsmith with a reamer, so that is a consideration.

So, does anyone have any insight to offer? Experience with either cartridge? Another cartridge to look at? I appreciate any info that anyone can provide!

The cheetah is a barrel burner I wouldn’t do that if I were you , why not a 22 br or a 22dasher 22 creedmoor?… I didn’t know 22-250 was unobtainable?… I just bought a bunch of Lapua. How much 22-250 brass you need?

I was just looking at the .22 Creedmoor; it looks like it would do the job. I really appreciate you asking about brass; I'm going on vacation for the next few weeks, and I'll wait until then to stress over brass.
 
I appreciate the offers of brass. I'm heading out of town tomorrow for a few weeks, and I'll look for brass again when I'm home. I figure that 100 rounds would last me for a while, especially as little as I've been shooting recently.

Just have him run a 22 Creed reamer into your chamber.
 
edited. keep the caliber and buy some brass. if you can't get it to shoot really, really good, go to another XYZ. another fellow hit the nail on the head,,,,how does your rifle shoot now? at its best, how did it shoot? I like the idea of 22BR for your next barrel. Good luck. hard decision.

I've been after some good 22-250 brass for a while, too. Unfortunately mine is for a 6x250 so I can't shoot factory ammo. I have a bunch of RP and WW, but would like at least 100 of something heftier. It's slim pickins for 22-250 brass these days.

id go for the 22br- with it you can keep the same bolt face and shoot 22 cal varmint bullets at 22-250 velocities. you can use 6br or 7br brass to easily make cases. you dont say if you are rebarreling or getting a new gun. is your 22-250 barrel worn out? I wouldnt toss a barrel because i cant get brass. Id shoot it out first. you can get brass if you look.

Buy some Lapua 6 creedmoor and run it through your die

Seems to me that almost all components in the reloading community go through cycles of no supply to plentiful supply. The reloaders supply has been a surplus to much larger marIf you consume components you need to be looking ahead at your up coming needs and your supply of components. It is more tightly managed by esuppliers so consumers have to anticipate their needs and seek adequate supply(s). The government is an additional complication to the equation albeit a large volatile and fickle one.
