Gordy Gritters 'Chambering School'

Since the Grizzly "Chambering a Championship Match Barrel" DVD came out recently, there has been a tremendous amount of interest in the details of how I do this and also just how easy it is for even someone with very little chambering experience to turn out really top-quality work.

I also had so many guys watch and talk to me at the SHOT show a couple weeks ago while I was chambering match barrels at the Grizzly booth, asking so many questions about all the little details involved. Several guys asked me if I would be willing to do classes on how to chamber barrels.

So I have decided to offer custom chambering classes at my shop for anyone who is interested - these can be scheduled almost any time on an individual basis since I chamber barrels all the time year-round. Even if you have very little experience, you should be able to turn out chambers that will be highly competitive right from the first one, especially if you have the Grizzly Chambering DVD and the info from my class to refer back to.

I will cover much more than we had time to show in the DVD - things like lathe setup, dialing in the bore, benchrest and wildcat chambering, throating, necking, crowning, custom reamer design, making custom dies, plus I will show you how to "slug" bores and evaluate barrels.

I do have to charge for this training since it will definitely cost me in lost production time, but I will try to give you way more value in knowledge than it will cost you. I figure these classes will run the better part of two days and I am going to charge $300 per person for the 2-day class. One guy also wants a class on pillar bedding, and I can normally add a day or two longer to accomodate other training like this at an additional cost. I also have classes scheduled in Long Range/1000 Yard Shooting to help folks do better at this, besides being a full-time custom gunsmith, I am the founder and part/owner of the Iowa 1000 Yard Benchrest Assoc) - just let me know what you want.

My wife runs a Bed & Breakfast at our place that you might take advantage of while you are here - first come/ first serve.

Whoever is interested can contact me 641-628-3044,I am busy and only answer my phone from 2-5 pm Central time, Monday to Friday), or e-mail me at gordy@wildbluepella.org.

Thanks!

That sound´s awesome, wish i lived in the states.
I have to ask you, i saw a clip on youtube when you indicated a barrel. Where do you buy the rod you used for indicating the barrel? The one with bushings! Where can i get that Dvd?

Hi, Eskimo1

We're having so much snow here in Iowa this winter, we're starting to feel like Eskimo's too:)

I made my own range rods, but got so many calls on them after the DVD came out, that I sent mine to Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool & Gauge to copy, and he has them available now.

The DVD is available at www.grizzly .com

Thanks!

Preacher, I get them from MSC,let me know if you don't have access to MSC & I'll look up their phone # and the part # for you). They have a section by the dial test indicators where they list a number of different length tips for the various brands of test indicators. Mine is 1.5" long instead of the .7" one that comes with the .0001" Mitotoyu indicator.

Thanks!

Thank you,
I'll get right on it, I appreciate the help..

If by some slim chance I'm ever in the area it will be worth the $300 just to set back and watch you work :)

John Wayne, I just answered your PM. Looking forward to meeting you!

Eskimo1, you don't know how good that sounds to go to Sweden to conduct a class. Probably have to charge a little more than $300 though:) Maybe get a few friends/ fellow gunsmiths together to share the cost, and who knows what could be possible!!!

Preacher. you are welcome any time!!

Thanks!
Gordy

I have some dates scheduled for the two-day chambering classes now, and I still have some room in these classes if anyone else wants to take advantage of this very in-depth one-of-a-kind training:

March 10-11, March 27-28, April 15-16, May 27-28,immediately followed by a 1000 Yard/Long Range Shooting school on May 29-30), and July 16-17.,I do have another 1000 Yard/Long Range Shooting school scheduled on June 13-14).

I have more info on my website for these schools: www.gordysgunsmithshop.com

Just contact me if you are interested. Thanks!
