Gordon Taras has left the Range

Gordon Taras left the range Saturday morning. Gordon was a shooting legend. He was triple distinguished in highpower, smallbore and international, and the NRA even has him listed as distinguished in pistol, making him quadruple distinguished. Gordon was the team captain of the 1948 National Championship rifle team at Univ. Cal-Berkeley. He shot on Olympic smallbore teams, and medaled in the 1958 World Championships in Moscow. He also was a member of the 1999 US Palma team. As Gordon would say, he had several hockable medals from back in the day to go along with the several hundred others he kept in a glass coffee table. His competitive shooting career spanned 6 decades. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge and was eager to help anyone with questions. I knew if I asked him a question concerning position, technique, or sight alignment, I'd better have 30 minutes available for the answer. Gordon competed up until last fall when he began having some health issues. His dry humor and energetic presence will be missed by his friends of whom I hope I was one.

My condolence's to you and his family. I just lost my Dad and I know how you feel.

Gentlemen,
If you will notice the date on my original post was Aug 2011. Gordon was a great guy and friend. I don't mind it being brought back up because it reminds me of fond memories. Just didn't want anyone to be misled.
