Goodbye to reasoned jurisprudence

We're pushing the "no ploitical posts" envelope here. But just thinking out loud, I'd be interested to know the general political makeup of this forum's membership. I'm a recovering Republican who now more leans in the Libertarian camp. Guess I am a conservative Libertarian.
Independent here. Just the way I like it:)

I think the title should be "Goodbye to jurisprudence based upon the orginal text and the original meaning". Those who are now making the rulings certainly have REASONS...it is just that most are not in keeping with constitutional language.

It didn't take long after the constitution was written to start chipping away at it. Teddy Roosevelt was schooled in Europe and was a progressive big government guy. Woodrow Wilson was a staunch progressive schooled in Europe and sympathetic to socialism. There were many others but FDR did the most damage with his skirting the constitutional principals that were our founding. LBJ managed to loose the Vietnam war and grow the government exponentially while sentencing minorities to decades of anguish and slavery of a different kind.

Liberals learned early on that they can get what they desire much easier by way of the judicial than legislative means. Sadly the republican party is pretty much in line with that judging from their actions. The republicans are just slightly less radical than their democrat counterparts. The country is more ruled than governed and if we don't wake up and throw the ruling bums out and replace them with people that are willing to make the hard decisions to bring this nation back to it's founding principals we will wake up just another part of the EU.

I do not know what to call myself politically as no party actually espouses my views of how this great nation should be governed. I just want the nation to be governed of, by and for the people like it was founded and today it is not and no party wants it to be. They will use any means at their disposal to keep the power they have usurped.

Political discussions are hard to handle as some people are willing to sling a lot of crap in order to get the discussion shut down. We are a firearms related site and as such our sport is the single most regulated sport in the nation. We cannot get away from politics as we live it. We cannot own a suppressor that will help diminish hearing loss without paying government exorbitant fees and that will likely never change. They just use a portion of our money to fund grants to groups that harass shooting ranges. Ask North east Texas Tactical how easy it is to start a new shooting range.

We can shut down discussions that make us uncomfortable but the pot is still heating and getting closer to boiling every day. I for one would not like to show up for dinner as an entrée.

I once read that after "humans" accumulate more money than they can spend in 5 lifetimes, the next thing is POWER over people and it is the greatest aphrodisiac there is.

At least term limits wouldn't let jerks stay in and accumulate more power through cronyism.......... our founding fathers never intended for "professional" politicians, but wanted "the people" to be "served" by "the people".....

Cudos to 22BRGUY! Those words sum it up the best! I'm so humored when politicians "interpret" the Constitution with their own spin on intended meanings. But I'm certain (as is 22BRGUY) that the Founding Father never meant that careers be made of those that lead the country. Yet look at those BAFOONS in Congress, on both sides of the isle. If they weren't millionaires when they landed in Washington, most are when they leave, unless they only serve two terms as they should. But getting to Washington means you have to have kissed millions of babies, rubbed elbows with special interest groups, been dating the "right" politicians daughter or son or come from a family with connections. Now and then they even throw in a few military Veterans, who at least, actually served our country. In short, some honest, hard working coal miner or average Joe from middle USA, hasn't a stinkin chance in hell of getting there to weed out the wrong, dishonest and corrupt members of Congress that flourish, many of who now have white hair caused by aging. And therein lies one of the biggest scams perpetuated our country, not to mention the many flocks of sheep that head to the voting booths every four years. But I guess since we live in a free country, everyone has the right of their own opinion and to vote for whomever they choose. And that just supports the notion of a sign I have hanging next to my reloading bench, that simply reads, "Ya Just Can't Fix Stupid!"

But if every one of those coal miners, farmers, shooters, liberty minded folk became active like the progressives, (and voted too) we would stand a chance of re-educating our teens and then maybe our country would prosper again. Note my third signature line....

SNERT,
If you are referring to the line that starts with, "A Godly man...." then you are relying on a hope, dream and the faith of a dying breed and generation in this country who even have a concept of what God offers. Just listen to the interviews of college age "kids" who in most instances, haven't a clue who the relevant "politicians" are such as the Speaker of the House or even who their local representative are. Those are just a portion of the SHEEP I refer to. And if you believe that an ordinary citizen has the wherewithal to take on the political cartels in this country, you are simply fooling yourself. Regardless of whether a person is a Republican, Democrat or of any other political persuasion, MONEY is a key ingredient of successfully getting into political office. And what a CESSPOOL that is. Consider what politics has become. None of these folks tell the truth anymore. They (politicians) wouldn't know the truth if it hit them like a MACK TRUCK! They ALL marginalize the truth and tell half truths because the whole and complete truth undermines and diminishes their believability and credibility. And that would cost them votes.

Respectfully, I so wish you were right! And as bright and educated as many are in this country, many of those conveniently forget history, which so often repeats itself. The lessons of the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire are ignored time and time again. The biggest lesson being, Every great civilization has fallen from within and not from without. Believe it or not, I am an optimist and full of hope. But in all my almost 70 yrs on this earth, I've never seen such a large number of UnGodly, ignorant, selfish and stupid people/sheep within our borders, as now exist and in the political ranks of our country. And there is plenty of blame to go around. But in my book, good and honest leadership is still required to stay on the straight and narrow. And that includes every aspect of politics with those who govern and lead, rather than the ideals of "self enrichment" and the "me, me, me" mentality that asserts and now has become that "beacon on the hill" for some many Politicians, who also control admission to a select group of legal and exclusively group who dare call themselves, "LEADERS!"

Lord knows how many times I have had my stuff thrown off of this site!I understand that the original purpose is to channel input towards shooting on this site.A wonderful Idea! Politics have gotten to the point it is part of our every day life one way or the other! Many of the members on this forum are LE,former Le,active military,or former military!Make No mistake Politics directly influences every second of their lives and the way they fight for US!There are many conversations on this site if you don't like a political discussion one can simply enter into another to sound off his barbaric yop!Now this is for the Admin. folks, yep this is your site, run it any way you want. But so many have endured so much and seen so much, those voices have earned the right to be heard and not censored especially on a shooting site.As usual I don't expect this post to live very long which makes me think you guy's are rich beyond reproach or the government has gotten to you!I won't hide behind a call sign, Regards Ralph Mollett

I think a reasoned discussion of the leadership and laws of our country is a reasonable topic and as long as it encourages actions that would remain lawful, and engagement in the political process of our country (still a birthright) without flaming others, calling names, using derogatory phrases, it should remain (in my opinion). As it relates to guns...well, no gun is an inaccurate gun, and without a gun, that makes me an inaccurate shooter! ;)

Since when is the truth pushing the envelope?

When the people learn how to vote for free stuff (and they have). The end of a democracy is not far off. The treasury and the tax payer can only support it for a limited time.
