Good value AR 10 barrels

Adam in WI

Hello all. Im looking at possibly rebarreling an AR 10 I just acquired. I'd like to know what everyone's thoughts are on who makes a good barrel for under say $400. Initially I wanted to go 7mm-08, simple neck down with cheap brass. But options there are somewhat limited. Wilson makes an 18" version, but it's out of stock and I kinda wanted to go 20. I also considered 6.5 or 260 since there are more abundant options especially with 6.5. I can get Wilson, Faxon, Criterion, and maybe X- Caliber in my price range (depending on options of course).

Main use will be just deer and steel under 400 yards. No caliber debates please, I just find 308 a bit boring.

Thanks folks.

I imagine you are looking for something a little bit sexier but some of the DPMS factory barrels from the LR AR10s shoot really well. Ive heard people say they are available as parts fro DPMS. I used to see them for sale years ago but maybe not anymore.

Not at all, thank you for the feedback. I just want something good for the money, but I also don't want to be able to out-shoot it for awhile. Im by no means an expert, or a competitor for that matter, but I can still tell when it's my fault or not. I'll look into DPMS as well.

Dpms factory barrels are excellent , other than that if you want something they don’t offer as factory WOA and Keystone both make ar10 barrels in different variations

I have used Ballistic advantage and Bear Creek Arsenal in 6.5 CM and 308 that shot under an inch at 100 with handloads. I don't do factory ammo unless it is bulk just for fun.

Just bought a Bear Creek Arsenal .243 win for less than $100 on sale. Still breaking it in. but so far it looks good. With factory Federal hunting loads, it's less than a minute at 100 yds.

Good stuff so far guys. Looks like there's two different Wilsons making AR barrels. My first post referred to what's apparently Wilson Combat. I can't get Wilson Arms Co website to play nice.

A little more than you want to spend but we are making AR10 barrels in 308win and 6.5CM. Retail price is $460. We only use the best grade BAT Machine barrel extensions. We make a med/heavy contour barrel.

And you're local! Sort of...

Do you user any bolts in particular or can I send mine to check headspace? It's a Faxon bolt...

DPMS and don't look back for the money...the 260 Rem I put on on my RRA LAR-8 shoots sub .5 moa all day (considerably better most of the time with it's pet load)...to my disgust, as it shoots a lot better than some bolt rifles I have that have much more expensive barrels on them. Good luck!

You dont buy enough barrels to buy a wilson FROM wilson. You can only get them from a reseller that buys all they make. Theyve never been concerned with their website since they pretty much dont sell to the public. No idea who wilson combat uses for their barrels, but theyre more concerned with clearing a room or a 3 gun course than br accuracy- not the same thing

You can send us your bolt and we can double check head space. No big deal.

If your going the 6.5cm route I would recommend the smaller firing pin/high pressure bolts. Helps eliminate primer issues. We get ours from JP.

Yea my DPMS with Nosler Custom competition 123s shoots a ragged hole. But it is not in the same universe as Franks barrels. I have one on my 7 RUM and a spare in the safe.

Adam your google foo must be nonexistent. Just go to the DPMS store and Look under parts, then stripped barrels.

I've used several Faxon 6.5 Creedmoor barrels with excellent results.

The rifle currently wears a 16" Faxon. What I'm guessing is their gunner profile. First outing suggests I should leave it alone, but I probably won't. 308 is just kinda... meh
