Good range finder???

I have zero experience with range finders. Need one for hunting. I take it the laser types is the best? Whats a good brand and model? Under $300 preferred. Thanks.

I like the Nikon laser 800 I've had since the day they came out about 10 years ago. It is a one beam, one touch pocket size with easy to see numbers and uncomplicated. Some of the other rangefinders have too many modes and aren't user friendly. The high end finders send several beams over a period of seconds to calculate a average and have to be held very still during this. That Won't work for hunting very well and if you wiggle then you have to start over. The Nikon is nearly instant you press the button. I'm sure there are some new ones l haven't seen and may be better or improved. I have looked several times to get a more powerful one but I haven't seen a better one for hunting yet. Mike

I have a Leupold RX-1000i DNA and although you will get many opinions on this brand and all the others, mine works absolutely fantastic. My hunting buddy has a Leica at a much higher price; we did a side by side test and he admits that this Leupold works just as well as his and is faster. In all the tests, range results were virtually the same and we went out to past 500 yards. I have had Bushnell and I like this one better.

The best under $500 is the Bushnell ARC 1600. I got mine for around $400 through Amazon (click through on this site's Amazon link and help out the site if you buy). Is the rangefinder only version of the highly rated ARC 1600 binoculars.

True Pulse.
As an Engineer, I use one every day for my work. I always have one in my vest. I have tried them all.
Bottom Line: Reasonable and Very Accurate. Horizontal, Line of Site, Vertical, Angles, Azimuth, Bluetooth, etc. Find them cheap on EBay.
This is what the pros use.
