Good Range Ear Pro Recommendations

I got these from Midway and really like them. If you wear electronic muffs over them you get added protection and can still hear if needed.

buy once cry once....MSA Sordin Supreme Pro X
Great minds think alike! :D I was going to say exactly the same thing. I've been down various paths with passive and electronic muffs. My old Peltor electronic muffs were great and comfortable, but too bulky for rifle and shotgun use. So I bought some new Peltors. They were uncomfortable, and fit fine for long guns. They worked well until the band hinge broke. Very fragile. I bought the Sordin muffs you mention and I'm extremely pleased. Spendy, yes. But it's worth it to protect your hearing and have good usability at the same time. The only (minor) grouse I have is the goofy battery compartment. I suggest you get the gel ear seals. They're very comfortable and seal over glasses. Plus, they keep your ears warm in cold weather! In my opinion, Sordin is the ne plus ultra when it comes to hearing protection.

Hard to beat good properly worn foam earplugs with muffs on top. Take it from someone who does noise on a daily. That being said, electronic muffs do have their appeal as to not having to remove anything for conversation at the firing line.

I do plugs and Peltor also. There are highly rated plugs out there.

I can't wear foamies or ear plugs in general, even custom moulded ones. I wore inexpensive muffs for many years. Inexpensive electronic muffs don't seem to work, attenuate the blast, fast enough. Sordin's do and do it very well and are extremely comfortable. Well worth the money.

I have tried everything and the best I have found are the SORDIN PRO X, They make a cheaper model, I think they just have less programs for the electronic hearing, after using the Pro X I don't think I would be afraid to try their cheaper model, just less features. Both models will cut out the bad noise but you can still hear conversation during a shot. I got the ones with the gel ear pads and they are very comfortable. I shoot prone with them with zero problems, they are low profile. I already have severe hearing damage and can't afford anymore. Take care of your hearing while you still have it, don't take it for granted.

This is the cheaper model, the one under the PRO X, This model here has the Gel ear pads.

I tried the in-ear plugs, the molded plugs, with limited success. As my haed moved, the would loosen the my ears and become ineffective. I also had hard -cover sound protection but discovered, those foam covers sucked. Bought a pair of the Sordins which have gel covers...
fantastic. I found gel cover replacements for my Howard Leight Impact Sports and Peltor Tactical 6's. What a difference.

Shooting HP matches, I needed to protect my hearing while retaining the ability to hear range commands.

For maximum protection, I use foam ear plugs under Pro Ears muffs. The Pro Ears have a gain switch that when employed increases their volume to be high enough to hear commands with the foam earplugs inserted - while protecting my hearing. The electronic switching is very fast and natural. Very highly recommended!

I have seen them on sale on Amazon at times as well.

Good luck!
Chris

Otto is another option, expensive but I've had mine for 4 years and still work great. If you shoot a lot then buy great (not just good) hearing protection.
I had Otto's used them, they're decent but stopped working after a year and called Otto, they were worthless. They wanted a huge amount to fix them, would have been just as cheap to buy new ones. Needless to say I moved on.

Etymotic gun sport pro. I have used for 5 or more years. Couldn’t be happier
