GOOD CHRONO FOR .17 CALIBER

Currently, the only chrono I have is a Magnetospeed. Have been unable to get readings when shooting 20-grain .17 Hornet loads over it. Tried all settings and no luck. Have any of you successfully used the Magnetospeed with .17 caliber bullets? What other chronographs are folks successfully using with this small caliber?

never had a problem with my Oehler 35P that has dual proof channels

searcher, My Magnetospeed has not missed a shot in the standard sensitivity mode
I've used it with 17 Rem, 204 Ruger, & 223 Rem so far and from 3,900fps down to 3,400fps
Have you checked your spacing from the Bayonet sensor to the bottom of the bore
Needs to be about 1/4"

It's been said that if you paint the bullets with a felt marker, they'll read. Try it for yourself to see.

I had the first iteration of the magnetospeed and the only way it would pick up the .17s (hmr & M2) was if you changed the setting to "slugs". I have the newer model now and it reads everything flawlessly. Make sure the bore is aligned closely with the top of the bayonet. If the bayonet is too low, it won't read properly.

The magnetospeed I have was one of the very first off the line and has not really had any issues. I know how critical it is for the bore-to-bayonet clearance. I have always been able to get just about everything to read on this - except these little 20-grainers. I'll close up the gap a bit more and see how things go. Figured I'd see what others had experienced. I do appreciate the input! Thank you.

Mine is the newer version V3 like the hog's I guess I should have pointed that out

As far as painting the bullets that only works with optical chronographs (start & stop sensors)

re painting bullets with a black marker...i thought the magnetospeed chron doesn't "see" bullets like a CHRONY or the others. i do mark my 20 cals and my CED sees them all as does the CHRONY.

+1 for above statement. I've shot 17HMR, 17 Ack. Hornet and another 17 wildcat with zero issues using the Oehler 35P.
