I'm thinking of getting another scope for a new build instead of moving one of my GEs around. I'm pretty happy with the GEs but started wondering if I should try something else for shooting paper at mostly 100 yards. Would like to stay at or below the price of a GE and maybe try a fixed power scope. The Weaver 46x48 looks like a good deal at Natchez but would that be a case of you get what you pay for? Thanks!

If I didn't go with another VGE I would get a Sightron 10-50.

The sightron siii 45x45 competition series are very nice scopes. I have two. Use them for 1k paper, and they hold zero. Less than a grand. I bought both of mine for $750, one was new when they came out. I also have two siii 10-50s. The glass is much nicer than the regular siii. Though the siii's I have seem to be the same or slightly better than a couple ge's I've compared with. At least to 50x. Above 50x the ge's get super dark.

Thanks for the info. How does that Sightron 45x45 compare to the March 48x52?

I dont have that march, but I've looked through a couple of the fixed powers (48,50 and maybe one other) and they are slightly better than the regular siii's, but I think the 45x siii comp has better glass. I dont feel you buy a march for exceptional glass, you buy a march to hold zero. In my opinion anyways. I am sure someone will get offended by that.

I too have a GE and like it a lot! I recently updated an older M70 match rifle with a new 6.5CM barrel and needed a new scope for it. I bought a new Sightron SIII 8-32 X 56 and I am really impressed. I also have a NightForce NXS 5.5-22 X 56, the glass in the Sightron compares very well and given the difference in price, is a great value.

+1 on the S111-10-50x60. I have both and like both, but the Sightron is a tremendous value. Give Lancexxx on this site.

I've owned the Sightron SIII 10-50 and the ED 45x and a GE
In my opinion the ED 45x has the best glass of the 3 It's a fixed power, only draw back.
The 10-50 is a slight second, best bag for the buck scope.
The GE ( I would only get the ECR-1 reticle)is a close 3rd good glass to about 40x, above that starts to get darker than the Sightron 10-50
I still owned one (GE)for 3 years, nothing wrong with a GE
Have a Trijicon AccuPower 5-50 and the glass is on par with the ED 45x Sightron
Had to buy the MRAD version to get a floating dot reticle. Subtension (center dot)is about the same as a GE and 45x dot
Bought the MOA version and the reticle is a little thicker but still not a problem.

I've never looked through the 6-24s or 8-32s, but a regular siii 10-50 and a ge are pretty much the same to 50x. Above 50x the ge's get dark.

A buddy of mine bought a new ge and we compared them at the range. We compared them at paper from 100-600, then looked at silhouettes from 800-1k. To us they were almost indistinguishable. Until you cranked the ge passed 50x. Then like I said it got really dark. I've looked through a couple ge's at long range silhouettes (850-1k) and they look the same. But your eyes may vary.

Do not buy a Weaver 46X. If it has problems Weaver will not fix them. I purchased one for a friend of mine and it worked great for a month then it crapped out. He ended up sending it to some woman to be fixed and she didn't know if she could fix it but she said I'll take a look at it and let you know. That was last year and he still hasn't got an answer from her yet. So save yourself from some possible aggravation, stay away from that scope. IMO you don't need to spend a lot of money to shoot mostly at 100 yards. A fixed 1" tubed Sightron 36 would surprise either a regular SII or a Big Sky is even better.

I went Sightron Two 10X50 and One 8X32 My eyes like them much more . All MOA Illuminated .

Thanks for the heads up on the Weaver. I'll stay away from it. Looks like glass quality is pretty subjective and dependent on the individual.

I have looked through Mikeeg02's on the 1000 yard line and just after shootin with my GE. I thought that the Sightron 45x ED was a touch crisper/better.

I think Weaver was bought by Bushnell and they are not fixing the Weavers anymore just replacing them with equal/lesser value Bushnell scopes. I had a friend that sent in a 36x and got back a 27 power variable Bushnell that aint half the scope he sent in.

Aim small, shoot small. You have to see the hairs on a gnat's a as so you can clip them!
I think the Siii is the best value out there. I have 1 Golden Eagle. I have a bunch of Siii 10x50s on my guns. I have a little trouble getting a good eye position on the GE.
