Going bigger, building a 7mm BR

Been on a build kick since the lock down and have traded and swapped around to get some parts ready for my next build. A few weeks ago I traded off my action and stock from my .224 Valkyrie and today I sold my stock from my .221 Fireball rifle (will be selling more of it soon) I just placed a phone call at Northland for my Shilen barrel and was told 20 weeks,.. yikes! Got a deal on here a while back and got a set of 7mm BR dies and some brass so I need to get a stock and I should be good.

Going with a 9 twist which should do well with everything from 120gr to 175gr.
A few members in our club have built 30BR's and they are doing well with them but after looking into it I don't want to jack around making and turning brass. Peterson just released their 7mmBR brass so its readily available again and since Remington made that round as a factory round there is load data for it. Sierra actually has data for a 7mmBR rifle in their book.

That’s fine.

I can’t quite figure out why Peterson decided to offer a 7BR case, which is just about defunct, instead of a 30BR, arguably, aside from the 6PPC, the most popular and accurate Benchrest Chambering around.

But I see your point.

Check Bruno’s. They have a good selection of 7mm barrels in stock.

I’m not pushing Lester’s store. But I like the idea of deciding to buy a barrel on Monday, have it at my shop on Friday, chamber it up and be at the range on Sunday.

It sounds reasonable to think 7mmBR might be competitive with 30BR but in reality you may find that finding quality bullets could be a problem. I've shot 130/150 SMK's with some success, however at short range BR the 30 cal uses a 17-18 twist barrel. In my opinion 9tw 7mm may not do the trick against a good 30BR. You may give some thought to a twist in the ranges of 12-14....and even at that a barrel maker would probably have to make one. If you get that range of twist you could start with the 130 SMK and maybe some other bullets I'm not aware of and get in the ballpark. It may be a tall order to run with the 30BR until Bart, JLK, Berger or some good bullet maker comes up with high quality target bullets. Just my 2 cents! Good luck

Because it's easy to neck 7mm up to 30 cal, and down to 6mm.
The in between case.

That makes sense.

On the Peterson Site, they do not give any of the case dimensions, in particular, the overall length and case web diameter.

While I'll agree with you on buying from Bruno's I don't have the ability to chamber my own barrels. Wish I did because getting one done is near impossible. There are a few smiths near me that can do it but they are months and months out on doing one IF they even want to fool with it and most don't. I have sent a few out to be done with mixed results and the same with pricing so for me it's easiest just to buy ready made barrels but the 7mm BR is not a "off the shelf" chamber so I have to wait.

I had good result( velocity and accuracy) with a 10 twist pac-nor and speer110 tnt and 130 sierra match kings, XBR 8202 . i was shooting a 14 ich barrel Wichita pistol , bi-pod and bag under the grip. 10 x scope. .200 groups were the norm.
I imagine with a full blown bench gun groups would be better. Most reamer designs put the TNT pretty far out on the case neck. If I were to do it over I would go with a -0- freebore and attention to the case length dimension on the reamer and shoot the TNT's Cheap and accurate they are. I would also go with a slower twist which of course are not readily available
