Go gauge for setting up full length die?

We live in a plus and minus world

The GO gauge for the .223/5.56 is 1.4640

The fired length of my case is 1.4675

If I set my die to the go gauge I would be bumping the shoulder back .0035 every time I resized the case. I would also be over sizing the case and shortening case life.

You can use the GO gauge to calibrate a Hornady cartridge case headspace gauge to read true headspace. And then adjust your dies for minimum shoulder bump.

hogan: The Wilson case gauge will indicate if your case is within SAAMI specs, but it will not tell you anything about the correct amount of sizing on your fired case, fired in your chamber.

Since I began using the Stoney Point Overall Chamber gauge many years ago, as pictured by bigedp51, I've sold them all.

The Wilson case gauges have + and - tolerances, the S.P. gauge provides a definate measurement with no tolerances, and that's what is required to properly adjust your sizing die.
