Glue on to screw on pad conversion?

I’ve googled this and searched here to no avail but how can you convert a glue on recoil pad to a screw on. Synthetic stock and brand new pad.

Thanks in advance, John.

I've only done this once so take that for what it's worth, but I needed to lengthen the butt on a Mcmillan stock with foam fill. I cut off the old pad which was glued and managed to glue in some wooden dowels into the foam by drilling undersize and tapping them in, which seem to have taken the screws for the new pad adequately. The new pad has not moved in a year now so seems well anchored. I think I used JB Weld to glue in the dowels.

If it's a hollow butt stock, I fill it with non expanding foam sealer to about 3/8" below the back end then top it with two part epoxy. When the epoxy is hard, sand it level, drill it and inlet a couple threaded inserts for the screws.

Good shootin' -Al

Thanks for the reply. Mine is foam filled. Al, what size inserts/screws do you use and where do you get them? That seems like the best way for my purpose as I would like to easily take the pad on and off. Fixing a gun up for my daughter and I may want to shoot it some too.

Thanks, John.

John, I use threaded furniture inserts. They have very aggressive outside cutting edges and an Allen head recess to screw them in with epoxy on the outside. Ace Hardware, etc has them. Never just gone right into the foam, though...might work ok depending on the foam. -Al
