Glue Ins or Piller jobs

I don't know who to recommend but there is enough information out there that you could do all
of that yourself...it's not that difficult to do and by doing it yourself there is a lot of satisfaction
when done. I bed and piller all my actions myself. There are many right here on the forum that
can help walk you through the process. Lots of info right here.;):)

I believe that Alex Wheeler does a combination of both for many customers. He pillar beds and then glues in. The results of this speak for themselves. For lighter recoiling calibers and shorter barrels, I believe that bedding and gluing have shown excellent results.

I do a pillar bed with final glue in on 90% of the rifles I build. Actually rare for me to do a regular bedding job anymore. I believe 100% in the process. Trigger, bolt stop, barrel, bolt, exc all removable with the action glued in. I call it semi permanent because its a 2 minute job to remove an action from a glue in with no damage done to the parts.

Ah, the "screw and glue" bedding job. Very nice.

Think of it this way...if the glue fails, you have a pillar job sitting there! ;)

The only issue is if you "switch stock" in addition to "switch barrel". In my near future, that will be the case for me. I'll only have room and weight for one target rifle. So, it'll have to be a straight pillar job.

Unless, maybe, ... well, another topic for another thread on another day...

No great wonder given my lack of experience vs. most here but, I have never heard of gluing in an action. So we are not talking about gluing in the pillars? No hard epoxy that you can pop the action in and out? If you have to re-glue is it a major production? I just looked at a Timney trigger that is sitting in my desk drawer. There would be no way to adjust it if could not pop the stock off. Is this a Benchrest thing or is it done for sporter and field target rifles?

the action has to be setup for a trigger hanger so you can take the trigger out the bottom of the stock,,but most people use triggers that can be adjusted without taking the stock off,,

Both my Panda F Class and BAT MB are glued into McMillan Stocks, my gunsmith insists this is more favourable than any other way to marry action to stock. He also says that it’s a fairly easy process to remove action from stock with no damage at all to either stock or action. I’ve had no trouble with either of my glue ins and both have shot well with multiple barrels, just set and forget.
