Marksman barrel is just a slightly enhanced polygonal barrel. The changes are largely due to the FBI's requirements that they incorporate at least some conventional rifling to aid in identifying what rounds came from which barrels. FBI was having a hard time with that with polygonal barrels, and couldn't tell which rounds came from which agents. It was also a good time to "correct" some things like converging onto a standard lug pattern across all models. They modified the muzzle cone also!
