Glass bedding release agent and and putty

I use Kiwi Neutral shoe polish. If you go up to the top and type in "release agents " you will get at least 15 different threads on the subject. Modeling clay or plumbers putty.

Gotcha.. Searched bedding and glass bedding and what not but found nothing haha .. I'll check it out thanks

People have used the gamut from floor wax to special release agents to Pam cooking pray. For modeling clay anything that's cheap at a toy store. For clearances that need to be closer like the front sides and bottoms of recoil lugs, I use tape. Ordinary plastic packing tape. For a finished stock I use ordinary masking tape to protect the finish and to protect areas on the barreled action I don't want to touch after I'm done. One layer adds about 4 thou clearance.

I use Kiwi also, but I just did a Savage target action that was kind of a pain in the ass and I wished I would've used some kind of liquid over top of the Kiwi. The Savage had a really rough exterior finish, so it was hard to get a good coat of Kiwi on it. I was able to pop the action, but it took more effort than any other that I've bedded.

To eliminate all doubt,& it doesn't have to be set/dried, a thin coat of....Johnson's Paste Wax trumps all.

Silly Putty will bring you into the 21st century & doesn't require release agent of any kind & isn't a PITA to pick out of pin holes like modelers clay.

I was too embarrassed to admit to using Silly Putty! Works great, and is easily removed.

Ive used the johnsons paste wax forever. Never ever had a single problem and i may have to buy a new can next year- my current one is 25yrs old. And the silly putty is tops. Used it for about 2 yrs now after dealing with blue modelers clay forever.

My story is like yours, Dusty. I bought a can of Ceara mold release wax closer to 40 years back & I'm still using it.

Incidentally, I keep hunks of styrofoam from packaging to fill those big voids like magazine & trigger cut outs where you don't want the bed to migrate to. You can squish them in just about anywhere.

dusty do you heat the paste wax at all? i have heard alot of people run a hair dryer over wax agents just to wet them out some

Spray mold release works great & fast. A couple coats does the trick. Any tool house supplier carries it by various name brands. All work or no one would use them. Mold Saver is 1 that I've used. I've also used pure Teflon spray before (magazine release coatings). I like the spray because #1 it's fast, #2 it getting into tight spaces.

No i have a 1/4 square of heavy duty paper shop towel in there since day one. Its saturated and i just open the can and rub the towel on the wax and get to wiping. Never had to heat it. I bet if i heated it i wouldnt have that borehole in the middle of the can with the wax on the walls of the can. Once your towel is saturated you wont have to use much wax the towel just puts a sheen on it

A guy brought me an accidental glue in the other day to see if i could get it out. I set it upright in my cleaning cradle, and dribbled kroil on top of the action got a couple hours. What do you know it popped right out ! Another use for kroil !!!
