Glass Bedding a Savage 3 Screw Target Action

http://www.6mmbr.com/pillarbedding.html

That is the method my buddy and I used when we bedded our Savage 12 Target actions last week. I don't know of a site that is specific to that action, but that article is close enough.

One thing we added was to put two thicknesses of 10 mil tape on the tang area, because the Savage actions are supposed to have the tang floating.

Richard's DVD is worth buying too. I bought it and it helped us.

Many thanks for your help. It's the three screw action which should prove interesting.

The two we did are also the Savage three screw target action.

Another thing we did was to press the factory pillars out (they are a light press fit) and then drilled down from inside the stock with an oversize bit to create a place for the Devcon to go around the pillars. We only drilled down about 1/2 inch. Then pushed the pillars back in and filled the space with Devcon.

I float the rear section of the receiver on all my savages and bed the rest with aluminum pillars or stainless barrels that were shot out . Only float the most rear portion behind the trigger. You can also tune the load you use by torqueing the receiver bolts so the rear you might start at 20 inch pounds and the front one at 45 inch pounds and I only tighten the middle screw enough to keep it from falling out and shoot a group and add torque on the rear in 5 inch pound increments. Till it shoots as tight as the load you are using , then start tuning your load by powder changes first with the bullet just off the lands till you find a load that has promise. Once you get there start tuning your bullet seating depth to further tune that load. Join savageshootersforum.com and it has a wealth of imfo for your gun.
