Thank You for the replyyes sorry should have read your post more carefully
If I wanted to engrave the tapered part of the barrel I would need to set it up so the tapered part was parallel to the table. I just engrave the straight part of the shank. What sort of engraver are you using, CNC I assumeI can't get the picture to blow up. Is that a 2 dimensional machine? Do you attach a tapered barrel at an angle?
Its not about floating you just push the scribe down until it hits. Itll go down an inch or more past where the barrel usually sits. Think about how it engraves over the rounded surface to start with. Itll even engrave a ringDusty and Butch I also have a New Hermès but the Z axis on mine is similar to a milling machine In that it is movable but does not float to compensate for the angle
Deckel 3D pantograph, understand setting barrel taper up to be parallel to the table' These things use a former cup to engrave in a convex manner. The former plate holder is fixed in place, and does not move with the stylus, Think I'm having a brain lapse. If I wanted to engrave the tapered part of the barrel I would need to set it up so the tapered part was parallel to the table.
