give your 2 cents for a Rookie Competitor

Hey Shooters - We've got a rookie rifle workshop coming up where we'll dump guys through the books/rules/regs as an intro to competitive shooting and hopefully give them the bug.

Anyone have any best practices, What not to Forget's, ettiquette or general 1st timers advice that you'd want to share? Speakers are covering mostly NRA Big/Small Bore, Fclass and IBS.

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions - We'll pass them on and hope that they'll all be forum users as well!

Comes under the heading Safety/Etiquette: When the range is made "safe" for people to go downrange to score , repair and change targets, do not handle your firearm for any reason what-so-ever! Action must be empty and open, and it's a good idea to step away from your firearm, and I even make it a practice to put my hands in my pockets. This is the standard rule at the clubs I belong to, but too many ignore it, so many, in fact, I could write a book about this most basic rule of range safety, and all the violations I've seen.

Preacher quote

" If your not shooting the bolts should be out of the gun.... period..."

That's great in BR...but doen't cut it in NRA High Power, XTC or F-Class....that's why an ECI (Empty Chamber Indicator) comes in to play....and the most forgotten rule:

Only handle your weapon during prep and live firing when told to do so!
