Giraud Shell Holder - 3d Printed

Has anyone tried 3d printing a Giraud Trimmer Shell Holder? I have an extra outer/threaded piece, so I'm only looking to print the inner portion.

I'd be interested in hearing your experiences with the process.

Well ... my lack of desire to pay $50 for a new shell holder has spawned a desire to buy a $500 3D printer and make one. I'm starting with learning Autodesk Fusion 360. This is proving to be a fun distraction. It's just for personal development, I'd never sell them. Heck, I'm not sure I'll pull the trigger on the printer. I'm just working through things.

How much would a 3d printer cost to make a 3d printer?
Sounds like an opportunity there. Especially if you get signed up for JOE'S newest deal on FREE 5G nueternet to download all the software. Maybe recycle plastic bags for use and get a big high five from algore.

Kinda like china copying products that hard working americans worked out. But hey, its cheep.
Rant over.

So, making something for yourself is like a government subsidized machine copying products to undercut and sell? I'm not even copying their design, mine is a 1 piece printed design with less features (not spring loaded).

I recently made bushings for my barrel vise. Was this wrong, and I'm obligated to buy the OEM bushings forever?

How big of a part can you print, length and width wise ??
And have you tried any of the fiber impregnated spools ??

It depends on which model printer I buy. I'm still looking around. The one I'm looking at now does 220x220x250mm

I have zero experience with this, right now I'm just playing around seeing if it's worth the purchase. I have looked at those spools, but I'm not at the material selection part yet.

Have a look at the resin printers too - they can be a bit pricy, especially the resin itself, but the units will be easier for a "beginner" to use - no fuss with clogged heads, levelling, calibrating running out of filament halfway during a print etc etc - and in general, the resin printers will be better at the finer details - having said that, don't diss a knock-off Prusa - been using an Anet A8 for years now with excellent results - if you do decide on a filament printer and want to buy something that will have minimal learning curve, you can't easily beat the Ender range of printers.

Looks like a cool project. My son has a 3DP and I drew up a steel target and he printed it at 10% scale. You can do all kinds of fun things with them.

What hard working Americans? Yes, there are a few of them out there but almost half of them voted for a free lunch.

I recommend the Prusa Mk3s KIT. That is what I bought. It has been consistently rated the top 3D printer. Building the Kit gives you an understanding of how it all works. Assembling the kit saves $250 vs buying complete. Prusa Kit
I also use Fusion 360,
I make lots of "gun" stuff, like loading blocks, scope eyepiece covers, anti cant levels, 3" fore end adapters, power throw levers for scopes, etc.
A 3d printer can be very useful. One item that is very handy is a Ni Cad to Li Ion adapter for my Bosch drills. now I don't replace old battery packs, just buy LI Ion.

I don't sell things that I make. I make it for myself and for my shooting buddies, not interested in getting into a business that will require me to meet deadlines.

here is a link to an interesting website regarding 3d printing. https://all3dp.com/

rijndael,
My appology to you for my post in your thread. It did not sink in that you were
making this for yourself, nonetheless, it was bad behavior on my part to rant to you.

I own a Giraud trimmer as well as one of his annealers, and am very happy with them.
Both do their job excellently, and I believe well worth the price. I do not begrudge
the cost of accessories. Ain't nothing cheap any more.

Good luck in your endeavor.
I think all the things tearing this great country apart is having a toll on me.
I am going to take a break and work some brass for a while.
