Giraud pricing question

I had a question about the Giraud Trimmer, I’m sure I could get the answer with a phone call but I don’t want to waste Mr. Giraud’s time as I don’t plan on picking one up for a few months.

I plan on using it for 223 and 22BR starting out with maybe adding some 6mm and 308.

So when I order it would be the trimmer with one cartridge (223). I’m assuming I can use the same cutter head with the 22BR as well.

Then I would need a case holder for the 22BR along with any other caliber I would want to trim. And I would need separate cutting heads for the 6mm and 30cal ?

Does this all sound correct? Thanks!

You can use the same cutter and head for all, as you can adjust the cutter in and out for different calibers.
It is much easier to get seperate cutters and heads though so you don't have to fiddle with resetting the cutter each time you go from one cal. to another.

I have used the same cutter head for .223 and 6mm. Seems to take me forever to set the blade correctly and I always wasted at least a couple cases doing so. It's far, far easier to get a cutter head for each caliber and the change over is 5 minutes tops.

I make fast changes by inserting an already trimmed case to fix the radial position of the cutter; then all I have to do is adjust the trim length, which I can get fairly close using that same trimmed case. I always have fully prepped brass on hand, but you can always keep a reference case if you don't manage your stockpile that way.

I recently purchased a few of the TRI Way cutter heads that fit in a drill or drill press for the calibers I load for, $110 bucks a piece, IMO this is a quick and easy way to go to a different caliber without having to change any of the settings, and it's a lot easier on your wallet! JMO

Separate cutter heads for different calibers is the way to go. I started with .223 using plentiful surplus brass to learn the operation and adjustments of the cutter head.

A good tip for Giraud trimmers is to use a Hornady lock ring on the case holder, so when you do get the correct length adjusted, you can lock the ring to the case holder and never have to adjust again when changing between different caseholders. Just screw the "pre-adjusted" case holder from last time into the base and start trimmin'!

In my opinion, there are any number of trimmers that will get the job done quite well if you have the time to devote to it, and extra chamfering tools. I bought the Giraud in order to do a very high-quality job on a large number of cases in both 6BR and .223. I have cutters and dies for both calibers, and a change-over takes about 5 minutes and is dead on. Resetting the cutter head is at least an hour out of your life. Pop for the extra cutter.

Yes, I bought a separate cutter head for each caliber, i.e. 22, 6mm, 308. That means just changing out the cutter head and case holder for a new cartridge to be trimmed, and they're ready to go!

An extra cutter head for each caliber really makes the changeover fast and simple.

I have done this, AND I STRONGLY recommend using a Hornady Sure Loc Lock ring on the Case Holder depth setting. The allen bolt allows you to set the depth and lock the ring nut securely to the case holder so no resetting is required when mounting it, just screw it in until it is tight.

so with a cutter head for each case mouth diameter, and the lock rings on the Caseholder threads, you only set up a caliber ONCE. all other setups are just screw the parts into place.

I use my Giraud shell holders with the Forster Accu-Ring Lock Rings. It makes adjust it .001" easy. I have a good eye for doing it without the markings, but this is easier.

Thank you for the tips, I ended up picking up a used one and I will definitely be picking up some lock rings and different cutter heads.

I’ve never seen a more beautiful and consistent chamfer on a case
