Gilkes ross actions

What happened to Gilkes ross action manufacturing? Are they no more or did they turn into something different. From what I've read they were very good actions. Thanks, Gary.

You heard right: they ARE Very Good Actions! I have one (bought ten years ago), wishing I could find another; I know a fellow who has five....

And yes, Mike's retired. May still have a few select replacement parts if you need something.

Be super if he could find a buyer qualified to start his operation up once more.

100 right and 10 left handed steel actions were made. A pretty rare find

I have one of Tony 2 inch x 12 inch 416 actions. It is a 100 lb bench gun chambered in 416x30, a wildcat of my own. Table top artillery.

Look at the serial #. First 2 didgets are the year it was made. 2nd two are the month of production. Last two the number you have (1-258) mine is #18

How much, and what actions does it fit?

Well it fits the GR action obviously. The stock is a barrel clamp stock so the action and the barrel are free floated. I know shooters who have added shims under the barrel clamp and put 22 barreled actions in the stock for Small Bore competition. Since it’s a barrel clamp stock it will fit about any action. It will depend on what size (diameter) barrel you have. Originally I used this rifle for Palma shooting with a medium Palma barrel.

I know this is old, but the man who actually ran production of the Gilkes Ross actions is from Ocean Springs MS. His name is Bill Rogers. He had been battling cancer for a couple of years now. He passed away last night (11-10-19). I will miss him. He manufactured bob weights for our engine balancers. He was one of the best machinist in the country.
