Gibson scope

I bought a 788 Remington and it had this scope on it. It says Gibson's on the front bell, Japan 89 under the turrents and nitrogen filled, centered reticle and fully coated lenses on the eye piece. None of my friends know anything about it. Do any of you? Its a straight 6x and very clear and has a gloss finish. Kind of a nice little scope.

There used to be a Gibson’s store chain…similar to Walmart or Kmart. They were all over Kansas and eastern Colorado back in the day. Think the company was based out of western Kansas…maybe dodge or garden city. Anyway could be a branded scope from there but as to the manufacturer I wouldn’t have a clue. A pic might help

I tried another search. GO2 had an old post about the Gibson scopes and most (very few) said the same as you about it may have been a scope for Gibson's Discount store. But they were just guessing. Not a lot of information out there about the old scope. I tried to post some pics but it says they are to big. I'll work on that.

There was a store in Emporia, bought my (my Dad actually purchased it for me) Ruger 10-22 there when I was about 13. Took me all summer to earn and save the money for it. I think I paid $59.99 or something close to that. My son has the rifle now. He still hunts with it.

I remember Gibsons a Ky store it had guns, food, hardware, clothes My Aunt n Uncle use to take me there when I was a yard ape, I member he bought a 32 cal snubby, we drove there in his old 48 chevy in the late 60's early 70's

I believe the Gibson's stores started in Texas. Herb Gibson Jr was a very active RF competitor. I bought my first RF BR rifle from Herb. It was a Suhl 150 with a McMillan stock. He also sold me a couple bricks of Eley BR Gold ammo for it. Herb was very active at the Dallas Christian School where my oldest Grandson attended.
Herb told me that they could make more net money and less headaches leasing out all the buildings.
