Getting started in F T/R in Pa.

I have this itch to try to shoot 1000Yd. Wondering if any members are in the eastern central Pa. area. I live in New Berlin, Pa. bout 50 mi north of Harrisburg, about 35 South of Williamsport. Have a new Savage 12 F T/R .308, and a Shiilen barrel on its way in 243AI.Also shoot a 243WSSM and it's getting better, but limited by too slow a twist for the heavy bullets. Just want to see If I can do it . Thanks for any help or suggestions.....Rick

Come on out to the Original PA 1000 Yard Benchrest Club just north of Williamsport, www.pa1000yard.com ). Bring whatever you have to shoot and have a ball!

Contact anyone from the club for directions or I can PM my # on how to get there. It's a great place and a lot of great people there.

I haven't been to the Reade range yet, but I hear they're a great bunch to shoot with also!

Either way, your surrounded!

BTW: I live in Allenwood, as do many LR shooters.

Thanks Wolfdawg for the info on the Origional 1000 yd up in Williamsport.Love to get started learning, and that don't happen unless there's something going down range.Want to shoot both my .308 and .243 AI after the new barrel arrives. Should have something to start with after the 1st of the year...Once I got bitten on this little hole thing, it's like an addiction...lol
Seems like a whole lot of good people to learn from.I'll be getting a hold of you after I get the gun set up. Thanks loads, pun intended)

I also am looking for matches to shoot. I live in the Carlisle area. I have a 12ftr and put a shilen select match barrel on it.

Check out my post above. There are a lot of shooters from the Harrisburg, south central PA) area. Mark King Rifles, www.markkingrifles.com ) Bruce Baer, www.bearcustomrifles.com ) Goodling rifles, www.goodlingrifles.com ) are all great gunsmiths in the Harrisburg and surrounding areas.

Please check out our web site and definately come up and shoot!!! our first match is scheduled for May 3 and 4. We also have work trip shoot before the season.

hope to see you all at the range!

Why don't you just start at the hog matches...get used to sitting next to 16 other guns going off...match conditions...bench technique...timed shooting...etc...they are no pressure, lots of people will help you in anyway you need..the rules are fairly simple...factory classes for your off the shelf rifles etc...check one of them out first..then take the next step to 1000 yards matches...also some places are shooting 600 yard benchrest..nice place to start also..

Reloader243:

Come on down to Butner, NC The North State shooting Club is having a match next weekend. They have F-Class shooters coming from Pa, DE, VA, NJ, GA, SC, etc. It is one of the best 1000 yard ranges in the east. See their web site.
