Getting proper eye relief on a ruger #1

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
I have been looking for a solution on how to get proper eye relief on a ruger #1 in .218 Bee. Without using ugly extension rings the only thing is to mount it by the front of the scope tube with the rear of the scope and turret hanging out the back. The scope is a bushnell 6-24 x40mm. I have never run into this on a rifle before but according to my research it apparently is a common problem seeing as the length of pull is nearly 14 inches. I hate to cut down the crotch walnut butt but I may have to. I am trying to not alter the rifle due to the caliber . If anyone has suggestions or know if someone makes a picatinny rail to go on the 1/4 rib mount I am all ears. Pm me if you can. Thanks in advance.

Jon,

EGW makes a couple of bases for Ruger No.1 that suit slimmer barrels and the Varmint model. These extend over the receiver bridge area and coupled with a scope that has a reasonable amount of eye relief should work OK for you.

Thank you, I had no idea EGW made these.I will look into right away. Thanks again.

What a shame that they designed those beautiful mounts and rings, that don't work, for the Ruger #1. I used the EGW rail. Be very careful removing the old mount, make sure your torq bit fits. There will be a recoil stud that you may have to remove too. It is a press fit, grab it with ViseGrips and wiggle like pulling a tooth. Do it cold....heat will swell the stud! TRUST ME

Check out Vortex scopes. I saw one the other day with 5-6" eye relief. I don't know if I could shoot one like it but it might be a way around the rail.
