getting on the stock on the bag

shooting a savage ftr, sinclair bipod, generic leather rabbit bag the lgs had in stock

I set the rifle on the bag with the crosshairs in the black peeping through the scope w/o touching the rifle.
As I get on the stock it moves down and out, moving the poa up and in.

This seems 'natural' but how bad is it? I have to shove the gun around on the bag to get back to x.

Do I get on so lightly poa doesn't move? When I try the recoil reaction seems 'sloppy'.

Offset the original position to allow?

Harder bag?

I pound the butt with the heel pad of my closed fist into the rear bag several times before engaging the rifle. If this doesn't work fill the bag base with sand until firm- but not rounded on the bottom. Fill the ears with Black Diamond Blasting media (medium mesh -Tractor Supply) until firm. The blasting media is irregular in shape with sharp corners which resists settling better than sand which tends to be round in shape. Lastly if it truly is the "rabbit ear" style- they may be too large to avoid body contact which distorts the bag.

Probably the ears are too close, they should be spaced apart approx the width of the base of the stock butt. Call Protektor and they will custom make to suit your simensions.

thanks, I was thinking it was me and only threw in the bag option for completeness. It has gotten notably softer since I've had it and does have big ears.

I guess the first thing to do is just get a good quality new one of the right size.
Any specific recommendation for stock savage ftr?

It has a rounded bottom, how do I judge the size of that?
