German Salazar, Triple Distinguished, passed away two years ago. RIP.

On June 21, 2022, the shooting community lost not only a great marksman but an incredible friend and mentor as well. If you never had the chance to meet German, you may have read many of his articles here, on his blog or elsewhere. German was a talented writer and wrote extensively about building and shooting precision rifles and about handloading cartridges for matches. Say a prayer and/or toast his memory this weekend. RIP old buddy!

I never had a chance to actually meet German. That said, he and I exchanged many emails and phone calls on NRA HP Shooting. He was always willing to provide any information/help he could. Could always count on him for an educated opinion and he always was willing to "Pay it Forward". He certainly contributed to our sport and the shooters in it.

You should have been there when Clark Fay chambered his new 12 twist Krieger barrel that was really an 18 twist. Clark always sent the button with the new barrel it was stamped (12). German couldn't keep it on 3 targets with 200 grain bullets. It took a few hours to talk him off the ledge. In return German had me chamber the new 12 twist that shot a 600 the first string. I told him the warranty was now void.

German always said if you can give great pit service you will always shoot with the best shooters.

What a mentor to have to start my long range shooting.

It a big loss, while we only messaged each other no matter what the message was you could always count on German for a reply. He convinced me to build a 6XC, along with switching to RL 17.

He was never the same after the shoulder surgery. It was really sad the way he withdrew. He was a real person that genuinely cared about the shooting sport going forwards.

His blog was one of the best I ever visited. His paper on properly resizing cases is invaluable. I wish I could have met the fellow and thanked him personally for his contributions to the shooting sports, especially reloading. This guy truly was an expert.

I never met German in person but, I corresponded with him several times on chat boards and private messages. He was really a great contributor and mentor in the shooting sports, and I think most of us miss his presence in the community.

I did not realize he had passed away. It is sad that he is gone. While I never shot against him or ont he same line as I did David Tubb and his children I always enjoyed reading German's articles articles.

I grew up doing NRA High Power X-Course, Silhouttee, Palma and F. Having lost so many friends though it does not suprise me that someone I locked up to has passed away. I am only 51 but more of my friends, family. classmates, mentors and heros have passed away than are still alive!
