Gem pro 250 questions

I have a Gem Pro 250 that until recently worked perfectly. Its 3-4 years old and worked fine. I took it on a "field trip" to the range for some load development in a rifle. When I got home I got it all set up on my bench and it drifted badly. I tried to calibrate it several times per the instructions. I get as far as it starts blinking 20, I put the 20 G weight on it and it never calibrates, it just keeps blinking.

Does anyone have any Gempro wisdom to share?

Thanks
Mark

You said you took it on a field trip. Were you using batteries? Now, are the batteries still in? Were you using the scale on batteries or ac when you got home?

I used it on AC at he range, I usually use it on AC on my bench. I tried batteries thinking I could be getting some interference in my power. I tried it on batteries and it wont calibrate that way.

Sounds like the load cell is damaged. If you didn't protect it in foam to and from home it probably got damaged.

I used a GEM pro 250 for two years, its been replaced three times with a new unit in that time period. each time after 6 to 12 months, it stops calibrating.. Just recently, my Dad said mine stopped working.. they are trash, but they are always willing to send me a new one!

Try leaving the scale on overnight Then run it through all the different weight settings, then try and calibrate it.

I have tha same scale and I have had the same problem twice. Both times I had transported the scale and they were subjected to cold damp weather and were moved into a controlled environment. I could turn them on , zero, and within a couple minutes the would creep 50 grains or so. Keep plugged up and on until you can zero it and it stays. Be patient. Yesterday, I decided to speed the process so I removed the pans and the top cover and blew warm dry air into it. Today, the readout displays 0.000g regardless weight being added. I don't suggest trying that unless you are ready to test out a new set of scales. Within a couple days they should start holding zero then do both calibrations((scale and linear) and if there are not fluorescent lights or plugged into a receptical with certain other devices they should be able to weigh as accurate as any.

Also in the book it says do not place it near metal stuff. I moved mine away from my arbor press and wilson dies and saw a big difference. May not be your problem but is a problem.. HB

So, did you figure out anything bout the scale yet?

Thanks for the reply’s. I took it apart and blew it out really well. Two kernels of powder came out.

I was able to calibrate it and it seems to be holding zero, well at least for the last hour.

thanks for the advice

I've had mine for three and a half years , at least , and had some issues with it drifting after I had to take it off the bench and put it in the cabinet over-night . Hmmm . Check the instructions . Left it plugged in and a couple of hours later , it zeroed out , and worked fine . No issues . I did install a couple of line filters , and I leave it plugged in 24/7 , and do a re-zero every five or so loads . Checked it with weights and it was dead on every time . Guess when all else fails , follow the manufacturers instructions . And if that doesn't work , send it back . They're machines . They break . My shooting bud just had to send his 120i in for repair as it was drifting , and wouldn't repeat . Horrors.....
