Gehman Rear Iris

I have acquired a Warner rear sight with an older Gehman adjustable iris installed. The adjustment is frozen. Is there a recommended method for freeing these up?

Assuming I need to replace the iris, what are folks thoughts about polarized and colored filters for high power match shooting? I have a basic adjustable Gehman in another rifle, and its solid.

Been considering getting another Gehman but with the filters. Wondering if it will hold up to full bore rifles, or if these are only designed for small bore rifles?

It will hold up to fullbore.

It's easy to disassemble and reassemble. I'm sure the gehmann website will have instructions.

I've played with the fancier models of irises for HP shooting, but always find myself back at the good ol' Gehmann 510. With the lenses, filters, etc, I seem to spend my whole prep period looking for the perfect sight picture, then settling for whatever looks "good enough" when I notice I'm almost out of time. The 510 is simple and reliable, and always works. Adjust the aperture size a little bit for different light conditions and shoot. My opinion only. Good luck with whatever you decide to get.

257 ROBERTS,
Even though these irises are made for rimfire. They will hold up with centerfire cartridges up to .308 WIN. Trick is not to get it all complicated with diopters and colors ETC. That makes them more fragile. Colors not so much. Adjustable diopter feature , yes. But you would only need that if you are farsighted and have trouble focusing on the front sight. If you are nearsighted the diopter goes on the front sight on the MUZZLE SIDE of the front sight tube. If the adjustment is frozen get a new one. Those little "leaves" inside the sight that adjust the size of the aperture are most likly rusted up due to moisture. Always store your rear apertures fully opened. If you shoot in the rain . Get a small jewelers air bottle that you squeeze to blow air through the sight. ALWAYS BLOW THOUGH FROM THE DIRECTION THAT YOU LOOK THROUGH THE SIGHT! The precision miniature machining in those sights are amazing. You take it apart without the right tools and it will most likely be junk. Also never " lubricate" the inner workings of the sight ! Not necessary. Champions Choice and Champions Shooters Supply carry these sights.
