Gain Twist

Finally..... after messing around with this program for about a year or so it is finally done! This is my version of the latest craze in the fluting world, it is called "Gain Twist Fluting" . Not a simple program to write long hand, but I prefer to do things the hard way! Fluting starts at 1300 deg of rotation and finishes at 300 deg. So in 18" the twist slows down about 1000 deg. Starts fast at chamber and slows towards the muzzle. Hope you guys find it interesting as it is rather unique. Left pic is starting twist and middle is finish twist. And the complete barrel in third pic!

Walt, slowing down towards the muzzle. Not sure why they call it "Gain Twist". Seems backward to me! Lol.

That s why I asked. The gain twist rifling gets faster as it goes to the muzzle. May start as 8 twist speeding up to 6.5 twist at the muzzle.

Programming stuff like that is a lot of fun. I programmed everything on the lathe manually. A lot of my programs used Macro-B sub-routines to solve problems like that.

In this instance, incremental moves were quite handy, as the twist is slowing down with every linear move. I am sure there are many ways to program this . Fun stuff, when you get it right!

My understand fluted barrels have no improvement in accuracy. Does lighten the barrel.
I would focus on improved rifling.
