ftr with squeeze bag?

Is using a tactical squeeze bag rather than a rabbit ear bag a 'give up' that will inevitably restrict my ultimate results?

I get a noticeably better recoil reaction, fewer poor shots and a bit higher scores but I see more wobble within the x-ring.

What kind of stock are you using? I used to feel the same way but after taking some time to get used to my Edgewood bag I find its more consistent and tracks straighter. If I had an F Class style stock hands down I would be using an Edgewood or similar bag. You also won't get tired out from holding the squeeze bag in position for long periods of time

Standard savage ftr stock stock.
similar in 22 practice guns.

You mean a flat bench or f-open type?
Then where does the elevation micro-adjust come from?

I use the squeeze bag for tactical shooting where rapid changes in target location occurs. I've never seen one on the Fclass line and I'm sure you would if it was better. Different techniques to use them for sure.

I still squeeze a little on the rabbit ears or settle the butt stock right in to get the right height but its a lot more stable than using my TAB Gear rear bag.

I would look into a SEB Joypod. I have one just waiting for my new rifle to use it

I'd do whatever you shoot better with.

Hmmm...
f-open bag, f-open stock, f-open joystick. Might as well convert to _______.

I had to check the date on this post. Not in the last 6 yrs or so have I noticed anyone who was a serious competitor with a squeezing. You can do anything that works. Jeff Rorer is very successful with a slightly different rear setup, but most are using Edgewood, Seb, and I forget the last one that are the standard in rear bags used in F class.

You don't need the joypod, but they are pretty and they work very well. I use one but it's more for the convenience of adjusting for the vertical when the bag settles in the match than for anything else. I make coarse adjustments with it. If you are shooting Raton or Connaught it makes it really easy to hold center one shot and edge of the target the next with out disturbing the rifle setup. I still push the rifle forward to get the last bit of vertical and I move the buttstock for the last half a ring.

My backup bipod is a Duplin. I think Derek still uses one and he recently shot a new National record and won a World championship. They weigh within one gram of one another so I'm fine with either. My buddy Jade shoots with a Flexpod with moderate success (shot a National Record a couple of yrs ago).

There is more than one way to do it, find what works for you.

'Back in the day'... we used the factory Savage 12 F/TR stock to pretty good effect with bean bags. That was also back in the time of pretty much everyone using 155s, which seem to be a lot more forgiving of gun handling. The bar has risen considerably since then.

It's not an F-Open bag or stock or joypod. Edgewood bags are popular in F-TR you can use whatever stock you want with it. Joypod is also a F-TR bipod. I use an aluminum chassis that is hard to setup to track straight but I got used to using it with an Edgewood. I'm having a piece made to ride on the rabbit ears better.

XTR, you are correct. I’m still using canvas bags with polypropylene beads my mother made. I’d say I’ve used them successfully over the years. I’ve tried the rabbit ear bags and hated them. Maybe I just haven’t tried the correct ones.
