FT/R technique ??

I shot my rifle with the new stock and Duplin bipod today. This my first time shooting a bipod of this style. The rifle has an adjustable cheepiece and rather tall scope mounts. My rear bag is a Protector rabbit ear bag. I seem to have 2 issues.

First. The protector is a soft bag and after each shot I have to resqueeze it back so to speak. I am worried this is causing me some elevation priblems due to different bag firmness each time so to speak. Is the Mini Gater a firmer bag?

Second is hold issue combined with cheek weld pressure. Are you guys laying your head on the rifle or holding your head up so to speak? I notice that I can move the crosshairs slightly with different cheek pressure the tall cheekpiece.

I did shoot my best group yet by laying my head all the way on the rifle, relaxed like laying my head on a pillow, and holding the bag very firm to tighten it up.

I am on the right track with these type of bipods and do I neeed to go ahead and order a Mini Gater bag?bag?

Why don't you add more sand to the rear bag? It took me a little while to get mine to the right consistency.

The right advice. And, the leather or cordura will stretch after some use and need a little more filling. Keep an eye on it.

No you don't need a different bag. What you do need is the advice sleepygator gave, add more sand if it is to soft. Remember also that bag squeezing is an often used tecnique for making those elevation changes. Practice your follow through after you break the shot as well.

You also have an adjustable cheek piece--Use it to get a proper cheek weld. What is proper? The one you can duplicate each and every time. I have adjustable cheek piece's on all of my match rifle's there are a very good thing when used correctly. remember practice and trigger time, there is no substitute for them...

I have been dry firing and setting up with the rifle every night for a few evenings. Got the cheekpiece adjusted so when I get bedded down and close my eyes, reopen them I have a perfect sight picture.

I will add more sand and firm it up to see if it helps on the aftershot. I did like the way the rifle recoils as compared to the old setup with a Harris. It know comes straight back . I like the wide bipod.

Started snowing so I wont get to shoot till it clears up some..

Thanks for all the advice!

I added more sand and gave it a try today. I only had 12 rds loaded and not much time before work. 178 hornadys and 7 155 sierra palmas.

I tried to be as consistent as I could. 2 of the sierras to warm the barrel and then two groups of five.

I shot the best worst groups yet.... 3 shots in almost the same hole...then 2 shots in same hole 1/2" above that.....for BOTH groups...

Frustrating.... Not sure if it is my grip with my trigger hand or amount of pull into shoulder. Hopefully weather will hold and I can get some practice this weekend.

I do like the fact that the gun does not jump to the side or off target anymore and puts bullets in the same holes. Just nees to get the bogholes to merge....
