Front Rest Recommendations

It is apparent that to achieve best accuracy, I need a good front rest. This is for an AR15 for now, and bolt actions later. The AR will use two attachments that give the front handguard a flat BR type surface and the rear a parallel surface, much like a BR gun. These are from Evolution Gun Works, just for BR work on an AR.

What rest? I really like the coaxial type, but I think that is Farley only? Big $$$. Something else more reasonable that is considered a good value, that is more in $400 range or so. Maybe $500. This price with top/bag.

Thanks.

I'd look for a used Hart, Sinclair, Bald Eagle, etc. These things don't wear out, so used is just as good as new. You should be able to fnd one for under $200, maybe even with a windage top and bag for that price. Then if you want to go to a joystick rest, you can either put a Shadetree top ($375 new) on your $200 rest, or sell the rest (for the same price you paid, probably) and buy a Farley or SEB.

Check the BRC classfieds (often).

I use the Shadetree rest, I like it and paid under $450 for it including the bag, you will still need to come up with a bottom for it though, I already had the Caldwell BR 1000 so it was easy, just replaced the top section.

I use a Farley Coaxial II with Edgewood Minigater rear and front bags. This is an outstanding, if not cheap, setup. I also use Butch Lambert's tensioning screws for the Farley.

As Toby and X3M noted, Butch's Shadetree top on a good base is also a viable choice. Once I used a joystick rest, I did not want to use anything else. Other people do just fine without them. YMMV.
