Front Action Screw - What Head Shape?

Well, I botched up the threads trying to shorten this screw, so I need to replace it. It's threaded 1/4-28, but what is this head shape called? I'd like to find another stainless screw with this head shape, as it fits my bottom metal well.1000014285.jpg

I believe that is a weaver oval head, torx (or allen).

Did you put a hex nut on before you cut it to allow the nut to chase the threads ?

Weaver in 1/4-28???

OP I've never seen a factory bolt head like that in 1/4-28. Looks like the upper profile is roughly ground? If so it's probably a modified flat hex drive screw. I've made a bunch from those for bottom metal and other gun parts.

It appears to have been ground to shape on edge. Similar to this for reference but difficult to find in standard sizes..

Get the 1/4 X 28 screw (in SS) longer than you need, chuck it up in a drill motor OR press, take a file to the under side as it turns to get the shape you're after. Once you get the shape you like, double nut it and cut to length. Do a couple cause you know, you'll make mistakes. :(
Just about any BIG hardware store will have screws in SS. Probably in allen socket head. Get 2, they're small. ;)

Thanks for all the replies, folks! Just ordered these up. If anyone needs some 1/4-28 nuts, let me know lol1000014291.jpg
