Free navigation app?

I've recently been offered access to some big property's, several 100,000 acres, in areas with no cell service.

Access will be with a vehicle fitted with starlink and is only required while in the vehicle. Generally operating from a base camp and exploring different directions each day.

Is there a good app out there for:

- Viewing satellite maps and pinning some points of interest in advance. Being able to draw routes in advance would be a bonus

- Tracking my route live and being able to save daily

- Dropping pins and adding notes

Google earth would be fine if it could track my route. I tried doing it through google maps it seems to only take a location every 30min or so and they can be miles off so doesn't really help when your following existing tracks.

The problem is with no cell service, an app on your phone isn't going to work.

You're probably going to have to get an actual GPS like Garmin.

OnX does have the capability to download offline maps.
But once you loose cell service often it doesn't work.
At least for me.

With a starlink I have full satellite internet access anywhere. Wifi to the phone or tablet.

I have an old app that got carried forward from a few phones ago, called Motion-X. It's a bit of a battery hog, but it works well. It has ability to work without cell service, but they say you need to pre-download maps.
I am not a very tech savvy person, so I'll just put that out and let you see if it helps.

I have used an app called Gaia. They have a free version. Don't know if it covers your corner of the world or if it has the capability to store maps on your phone or pad.. But it's free. https://www.gaiagps.com/
Looks like OnX has coverage, but it costs. I use it all the time and I have saved maps in my phone and pad for those areas of no data access. I also build routes on my desk top and they sync to my other devices. Same with tracking. OnX does all of the things you are looking for. BUT it is not free.

I hunt some pretty remote ground in northern Montana and have never had a problem using OnX. Just download the areas that you will be in and they have always worked for me.

Another vote for OnX. I’ve used it in Wyoming,Colorado, New Mexico,Montana and others with and without cell service with no problems.

If you DL the maps and change to offline they'll show the areas you saved. But I never have to even do that. What I saved just shows up.
