Free bore diameter

Just curious as to accepted diameters per given cartridge . Specing Reamers ,my 22 dasher is only a few tenths, 6.5 Cm about half a thou and some others up to a thou.

I have a .22 center fire throating reamer that is .002" over bullet dia. Well two flutes are at .2265". My feelers tell me that this is too large. Thoughts ?!

.002" over bullet diameter will not hurt accuracy. It may actually improve it. I have not found the point the freebore diameter starts to hurt accuracy. However, too tight causes all kinds of problems. Like most things in the accuracy game, theres usually nothing but issues from tightening up specs. FYI, most of the PTG reamers that are spec'd .0005" over bullet diameter cut much bigger than that ;)

I'm curious on this as well. The JGS reamer I got for a 6brx build is .0003 over bullet diameter(.2433). Seems pretty tight. My gunsmith said he prefers a tighter freebore diameter, normally .0004 or .0005 over though. Hopefully this won't cause me any problems. Isn't the PTG 223rem ISSF reamer only .0002 over (.2242)?

The problem with tight free bore diameter is when you get a lot of fat bullets. They don't fit in right and will hurt your accuracy. Also hard to tell where you are at with bullet seating. Matt
