Fraud or not

Has anyone bought or did an online orders from Mid w e s t Pow d e r s? Are they legit?

Forum Boss: I have added spaces in the first and second words of the company name as I do not want the search engines to link to that scam site by a connection to this Forum.

If you think you have found a scam site, follow the steps listed below, and go to https://stopgunscams.com .

If you are still confused after that, send a PM to Forum Boss. Do NOT create a thread linking directly to the site.

Total scam. Anytime you can add an obscene amount of powder to your cart and it says it’s in stock and it let’s you proceed to checkout is the first sign it’s a scam. The second and most important is what type of payment they take. If it’s not a credit card then it’s totally a scam. Some websites use PayPal but it directs you to use your card, this site is not using PayPal for a card payment.

I see that you qualified for free shipping, too!

More than likely not from reports seen on them. Stick with known dealers, like Midsouth Shooters, Midway, Grafs, Powder Valley, etc. and you will be safe, even if prices are more. Safe and not sorry for a purchase and your money, plus scam free.

I do

About a month ago, I almost fell for the scam from Midwestrel0ads as they had insanely low prices on .50 bmg primers ($.20) & 8# jugs of WC-867 surplus powder for $76.00. I placed the order & the following day, they emailed me for payment.

They accepted several types of payment, but no credit cards & Paypal was not recommended as it was always refused by Paypal. I tried several ways to pay, but they were all refused by the payment companies.

At that point. I realized that I was attempting to throw away $750.00 in funds for fraudulent vendor activity & told the vendor that just to cancel the order. Trying to get the best price on supplies will bite you if not careful with unknown vendors. My but was saved by Paypal refusing to transfer the funds.

I should have known better, but was being greedy. My supplies were subsequently purchased from MidSouth Shooters Supply & the goods were delivered within a few days.

Glad the OP did not get burned.

But people, USE YOUR BRAIN.

Also there is a site that has identified scammers. Go to:

StopGunScams.com

We have explained in multiple threads how to spot a scam.

1. No major Credit Cards accepted (But see below -- sometimes the scammers will try to capture your CC info).
2. Taking Bitcoin, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Zelle, PayPal Friends and Family
3. Allow Firearm Transaction without FFL
4. No Hazmat Fee schedule
5. Ability to order huge quantities of hard-to-find products.
6. No legitimate phone number, invalid street address or none listed.

Honestly, If I want to check a site, I add 500 pounds of Varget. If it lets me do that, I know the site is a scam, confirmed with a check of the payment options.

Here is a comment from StopGunScams.com

Firearms scam websites usually ask for payment by insecure methods such as Zelle, Cashapp, Bitcoin or Paypal (Friends and Family).

The online Firearm Scam involves criminals pretending to be legitimate online sellers, either with a fake website or a fake ad on a genuine retailer site.

Check the payment methods. Scammers ask for payment using everything from Bitcoin to Zelle to Western Union. If a website offers any of these methods you can assume it is a scam. Some offer credit card payments as well as Zelle etc but this is just so they can steal your credit card information.
Avoid any arrangement with a stranger that asks for up-front payment via money order, wire transfer, international funds transfer, pre-loaded card or electronic currency, like Bitcoin. It is rare to recover money sent this way. Never send money or give credit card or online account details to anyone you don’t know or trust.

I’m happy to hear you did get stuck. What if anything can be done about these fraudulent people trying to scam us?

No credit card, no purchase. End of story.
