Frank Brownell must be pulling his hair out again..

Looking at the Daily Bulletin it looks like Potterfield's group has knocked off another one.

It want be long before Midway takes Brownells market share in the gunsmithing catagory. The majority of the market always follows the lower priced goods.

I noticed Grizzly tools and Harbor Freight also makes or imports the "parrot vices"

Is the Cerosafe brand casting metal from Brownell better than the Cerosafe brand casting metal from Midway? It is cheaper on sale at Midway right now and I suppose that's what this thread was about. I bought three slabs of Cerosafe, from Midway, at $9.99 per slab. It would have cost $17.00,??I think) for the same size and brand at Brownells.

Thanks Paul for the heads up on the Cerosafe from Midway. I use it a lot for chamber casting wildcat chambers and sizing dies.

The question should be -
"If Midway was selling an offshore-sourced Cerrosafe knockoff for less money would it be a better deal than the original Cerrosafe at its higher price from Brownells?"

Of course the answer would depend on whether or not the less expensive alternative served your purposes.

Other than that, you're just comparing apples to oranges!

Are you saying that Midway is getting Cerosafe counterfitted in China????? Interesting. Now I wonder why Paul saw fit to advertise, on this site, daily bulletin) the fact that Midway had a sale on Cerosafe.

You know, I'd rather buy American but.... I drive a Toyota because it gets 50 MPG,It's a Prius.) and the American Oil companies are getting rich enough. I use Lapua brass because it works best in my high pressure BR rigs,Denmark I think). I shoot Hodgen Powders that are made in Australia. To the best of my knowledge, there are no powders being made in the USA. If you are going to be competitive in todays benchrest and long distance matches, you just can't buy and use anything but the best of components. I do use Stiller actions and Shillen barrels and Jewell triggers, all from Texas.

But, I'm boycotting Walmart because they require American Companies to move their production to China, strange huh?). It's kinda tough to know exactly how to support your homies these days.

I'm not trying to pick a fight but I do believe in shopping around. Heck, If I see gasoline for $2.79 at one station and the station down the block has the same stuff for $2.69, where do you think I'm going to spend my money.

I guess I don't have a dog in the Midway vs. Brownell's,the new owners of Sinclair) fight. I buy lots of my shooting/reloading stuff from Midway because they have a good stock and almost always the lowest prices. I don't think they get their Hornady bullets in China but they sure have good prices. I'm not sure where you can find anything today that isn't outsourced to some third-world or Asian nation. That's the "one world" economy that brought us travesties like NAFTA which has cut the throat of the American worker. If the Midway vise does what you need it to do then it is worth the price. Do they not have a right to compete in the market? I have found Caldwell/Tipton/Wheeler products I have used to be very good at a fair price.

I'm ever cheaper than Shelley, I will go to the next station down the road for a nickel a gallon. For 10c a gallon I'd drive 5 miles!

I'm a little puzzled by what the sense of this thread is. Is it Midway vs. Brownell's? Is it about competitive marketing and prices? Isn't Cerrosafe a brand name that everyone gets from the same place? If it's a cheap ripoff and doesn't work, then don't buy it. But if it's the same thing at a better price that's great.

I think Midway's success and support of shooting sports speaks for itself. You know, they take the time to send me an email birthday card every year with a discount coupon. That's damned good marketing and I, for one, like it. And they apparently sponsor this site, and I appreciate that, too.

The one place I wont buy gas or anything else at is 7-eleven. That was a Southland company and at one time was very anti-gun. If it has changed, let me know.

Unless you can squeeze dealer price out of Brownell's don't go there. As for MidwayUSA, I check Midsouth Shooters Supply then I consider Midway. Just my experience.

I'd love to throw some business to Midsouth but until they'll ship without having my DL on file, my business will go to Midway.

Shelley,
You have completely misread my post and have misinterpreted its intent! I thought that my post was concise and to the point, but in case you had trouble comprehending it -

I did not for one instant intend to imply that Midway is getting counterfeit Cerrosafe from China. The OP mentioned Midways' vice in relation to a similar item sold by Brownells at a much higher price. The Midway product happens to be an off-shore knock-off without all of the features and not as well made as the US manufactured Brownells product. Whether the higher price for the Brownell vice is justified is completely up to the buyer of the product.

Now you came along and introduced your Cerrosafe argument into this thread. You are comparing, to the best of my knowledge, two identical items from two different vendors at different prices. That turns the thread into a discussion of the merits of two different vendors pricing structures on identical items, instead of the differences between US made items vs. foreign knock-offs.

I purchase items from both Midway and Brownells. I get Brownells dealer pricing, which in many cases beats Midways prices. I don't really care which company I buy an item from. It usually boils down to 1)who's got the best price on an identical item including shipping, and 2)who's got the item in stock for immediate delivery.

I could care less about individuals' motives for shopping or not shopping at Wal-Mart, or why they choose to buy gas at certain outlets and have no idea of the relevency of that to this thread.

My apologies, Billy. I absolutely was thinking about the Cerosafe and not the vises. I also would purchase quality when it comes to machine equipment rather than a Harbor Freight,or Midway) knock off.
