After purchasing some Fowler 66gr 6mm bullets on this site a couple of days ago, I took a trip down memory lane. I first heard of Jef Fowler when he was listed as one of the top bullet makers in Sinclair's catalog in the early 90s. I decided to order 1000 to try, sent Jef my check along with the order, and waited. Dummy me thought they were sitting on a shelf and would ship within a week to next door in SC. After a few weeks, I called Jef to ask if he had received my order. I was concerned because of the delay and that the check had not cleared my bank yet.
Jef answered and explained that the bullets were built to order and not on the shelf. He said that he placed the check along with the order in a 3x5 index card box in order received. He said, "Let me check my files." I could hear shuffling in the background and he finally said, "Yep, got it right here." I asked why he hadn't cashed my check yet. I will never forget his answer. "I found that if I cash the check before I make the bullets, I lose all incentive!" I remained a loyal customer until he passed. I still buy them when his little "balls" of 66 gr bullets show up. Those just purchased were made in 2000 and 2002.
Of course, I shoot Bart's and other custom bullets now as well but Jef Fowler will always hold a place in my heart for his special little 66 gr pills that shot so well in my PPCs.
RIP, Jef Fowler.
