Four Scope Rings?

I recently saw on the Facebook, a guy had a rifle and had used 4 scope rings to attach his scope to his base. Is this overkill? What is the purpose?

I have 4 Burris Signature rings on about all my rifles, especially those with the big Nightforces..
They sure won't slip any, and provide a lot more security than just 2 of them can...

It depends on what caliber and the intended use of the rifle. If it is a large caliber that might get knocked around a bit like a hunting or tactical rifle it would be added insurance. On a target rifle it is overkill IMO
