Found Some Bad Powder

So I opened my powder closet a two days ago and noticed that it didn’t quite smell pristine, although it was wasn’t anything overwhelming and I wasn’t too worried. Earlier, I decided to investigate it further and found this nearly empty bottle of N140 with one side of the cap slightly pushed up. Now I usually go through and look at canisters every 6 months or so and back in January this lid was completely purple and the cap was seated fully. Nevertheless, I gently shook the bottle and could feel lumps of powder with some stuck to the bottom of the bottle. I’ve had bad old VV powder before, but never any that discolored the cap.

It’s not the incorrect cap, VV did not always use screw on caps,that’s the original factory cap. I have other older VV powders with the same style cap.

Yep, I have some N 165 in a jug with that same cap.

I have (empty) VV bottles going back to 2001 & all have screw caps.

Yeah it was old, I think that was my very first VV Powder purchase. I picked it up in 96’ from IBA after Norm Chandler advised me to try N140 for the 308 Win. The oldest I have is a 2lb bottle of N130 from 1993 that I only use in the 17Mach4 that I call pixie dust. It’s still going strong and I’m going to cry when that finally goes bad.
