Fouling and the 75 and 80 grain Amax

Has anyone else noticed a significant difference in fouling with these 2 bullets when pushed at similar velocities. I'm running them in a pair of 22-243's. I've got the 80's throttled back to 3350 and they're still fouling like crazy. The 75's at similar velocities will shoot well until I clean the barrel just because I'm feeling guilty about it. Accuracy with the 80's starts degrading badly after roughly 30 rounds.

Just wondering if this is a fluke. I'd like to use the 80's on prarie dogs, but I'm close to giving up on them.

Are you experiencing this in the same bbl? Or are you shooting one load in one rifle and the other load in a different bbl. If the latter is the case, it could just be the bbl that is affect this for you.

Sounds to me you maay want to try the loads in the other gun to see if you get the same results. If you do, then you know that it is due to the make up of the bullet, if you don't then it is the bbl.

I have. The Bartlein is a little more forgiving. It's an incredibly slick barrel. Results are more or less the same. I'm mostly curious to see if this is a common occurance, or I simply got a goofy box of bullets.

I haven't measured the diameter of the two bullets. Would that be worth checking?

Sounds to be that the bbl itself is needing a lil polish or it needs to be replaced. Might want to talk to the vender from whom you got the bbl from and see if they will replace it.

Negative. The Bartlein is a better tube, but there's nothing "wrong" with the Shilen. This is a bullet issue.
The Bartlein does the same thing. It just takes a few more rounds to get there. The Shilen will shoot around 1/2 moa at 600 off a bipod. Both barrels are good.
