Forster Ultra Micrometer Seating Die

Prose

Used this die for the first time yesterday.

Do these seaters typically handle VLD/Hybrid bullets pretty well or do they need a different stem to handle them better? I was getting too much variation in COAL compared to my other dies with the same bullets.

make sure you have the depth adjust snug..the stem I mean....I have left mine loose a couple times..but that's normal for me

take a vld or hybird bullet and put some fine grit honing compound. chuck the bullet in a drill and hone the stem..and you can drill the top portion of the stem for the long vld bullets so the stem will not touch the meplate

The speed at which you lower the press handle is very important. A mixture of fast and slow will get inconsistent seating depths.
I also remove the spring from the top of the die chamber. It helps give you a better feel when seating. With the spring in, you are always seating against a load. Without the spring, the only resistance is between the bullet and case neck.

Your always going to have a little variation in coal.. thats normal. Cartridge base to ogive is what counts.. thats where you really should be measuring.. my .02 cents
