Forster Co-Ax shell holder question

Bat Rastard

I have a CoAx inbound.
I am curious is there 1 jaw setting that will do from 223 to 308 cases?
I am very lazy and would like to set it and forget it.

My CoAx has two shell holder sizes, small which does everything up to 308, which is the largest I have.
The shell holder has the large on one end and the small on the other. Just remove them and turn around to change sizes.

Will the small do 223 and
308?

you gotta reverse the jaws ,which is the same as changing them to a different set, to go from 308 to 223. i used to have 3 coaxs so i wouldnt have to do this. ya better order another one:D

308 and PPC would run on the same setting, correct?

I have two for the same reason. 223 on one and 6.5Grendel to 300 SAUM on the other in my case.

Yes. I use the small setting for .223, 6BR and 6.5x47L and .30-06. The small setting works up to 308. Many different cases use the same case head size.

This issue might be the only "problem" with a Co-Ax. I have decided for now to not buy the quick change jaws mainly because I have spares for all size jaws (I also load 45/70 and Magnum cartridges). I also keep spare top and bottom plates, springs, and screws.

The "lip" of the jaws (I hope this makes sense to the OP who doesn't have a Co-Ax yet) can break if you gorilla a military 5.56 case but 98.9% of the time it will just snap open or tear the extractor groove off one side. It had to be 5.56 cases from a Mk46 (M249) or not enough lube. I'm a lube-a-holic so probably not a case of me not using enough lube....

Either get a spare set of springs, find a spring that fits the top plate, or put the thing in a box when you swap the jaws from 308 to 223 for your first few times. You learn to be careful (or at least I did). I also have bought a mint worth of Forster lock rings as they tend to fit best for some unknown reason .

I have never regretted buying my Co-Ax and use it more than my other presses. They just have more moving parts.

I use the same jaws (don't remember which) on 223 to 30 Nos. There is an adjustment spindle on the frame that opens the jaws. You can make them open pretty wide. On the 30 Nos. I have to tip the case slightly, and then wiggle it a bit to remove it. No big deal.

If you are lazy like me… you can use the large side for 223 seating and mandrel but if you are going to size .223, flip to small… or keep a stuck case remover handy …

I think I will leave the 223 on the T7 and move all 308/PPC stuff to the coax. The T7 will have plenty of space freed up .
